"I don't think I will ever retire, but gradually like Amitabh Bachchan.” - Nagarjuna Akkineni

Nagarjuna Akkineni the dashing and debonair actor of Southern cinema turns 55 today. Raaga.Com wishes him birthday greetings and grand success in future.

Nagarjuna Akkineni is on sky nine thanks to the success of his just released Telugu family-comedy "MANAM", which also features his late father Akkineni Nageswara Rao and son Akkineni Naga Chaitanya. Readers may recall in the early 70’s Bollywood Showman Raj Kapoor had the privilege of making a film with his father (Prithiviraj Kapoor) and son Randhir Kapoor in the movie KAL AAJ AUR KAL.

Elated at the success of the movie, Nagarjuna Akkineni in an interview said, "I am obliged to my director Vikram, for the movie’s success. In addition I also thank Vinod, Harsha, Anoop, Rajeevan, Nalini, Chuniya and all the MANAM team for this classic.” He also thanked his niece Supriya for her services in the making of the film.”

Speaking about the movie MANAM he said, “The movie his very close to my heart because it is my dad’s last film. Hence I gave the director Vikram a free hand to focus on each and every scene sensibly and give me a well cut diamond film. Thankfully Vikran did and has lived up to my expectation of the audience as well.”

Recalling about the dedication of his father to the film Nagarjuna said, “I know my dad’s devotion for his films but what touched me most was that despite being operated and advised by doctors for complete bed rest, he rebelled and turned up at the studio to complete the remaining three days of the shoot of MANAM.”

He added, “He even insisted on finishing the dubbing as well, because he was afraid the tone of his voice might change. Watching his commitment has been overwhelming."

Nagarjuna, fondly called Nag, by his fans, turns 55 today. He may have turned a year older, but he says: "Retirement is the last thing on my mind."

"I don't think I will ever retire, but gradually like Amitji (Amitabh Bachchan), I will think of doing different kinds of roles. I will slowly start taking up roles where I don't have to singlehandedly take the burden of a film on my shoulders like I'm doing now as a hero," he said.

Recently Nagarjuna has given his nod to film maker Ram Mohan (producer of UYYALA JUMPALA). The movie is directed by a debutant director Kalyan and will have Nagarjuna playing a dual role. It features Ramya Krishna, with whom Nag has given hit movies like SANKEERTANA, IDDARU IDDARE, CRIMINAL, GHARANA BULLODU, HELLO BROTHER, ANNAMAYYA, to name a few. The other heroine is being finalized.

Bollywood stars devotion for Lord Ganesha

Deva Ho Deva Ganapati Deva

Tumase Badhakar Kaun

Swaami Tumse Badhakar Kaun….

True words because Lord Ganesha, the elephant-headed God is indeed the supreme God of all. He is believed to be the remover of obstacles and the God of beginnings and wisdom. Each year Ganesh Chaturthi is celebrated with great passion and fervor in India, particularly in Maharashtra, where freedom fighter Lokmanya Tilak began this festival to bring unity in diversity to fight the British and usher in freedom.

Listen to Lord Ganesha Songs on Raaga.com

Like the rest of Maharashtra, Bollywood too celebrates Ganesh Chaturthi with same devotion and fervor. From the great Raj Kapoor to his great grandson Ranbir Kapoor, the Kapoor Khandaan has been an avid devotee of Lord Ganesha. Each year a huge idol of Lord Ganesh is brought at Raj Kapoor’s RK Studio in Chembur, Mumbai and later on the immersion day immersed with pomp and spectacle.

Besides the Kapoor Khan, actor Nana Patekar is also known for his devotion for Lord Ganesha. During the 11 days of the festival Nana is known for quitting his entire shooting schedules and all important assignments as he devotes passionately in the devotion of Lord Ganesha. From bringing the sacred idol to decoration and taking its care for 11 days Nana Patekar, himself, supervises all the rituals and traditions.

Listen to Lord Ganesha Songs on Raaga.com

Among the other staunch devotees of Lord Ganesha in Bollywood include actors Jeetendra, Govinda, Rakesh Roshan just to name a few.

What’s amazing is that even Muslim stars like Salman Khan and Shah Rukh Khan are great devotee of Lord Ganesha. Though many Muslim fundamentalist leaders did raised objections and passed Fatwa against Salman Khan and Shah Rukh, but the actors paid no heed. Both the actors are true secular and as they celebrate Idd with passion, they also celebrate Ganesh Chaturthi with same compassion.

Underworld Dons And Their Fascination For Bollywood

After the infamous attack by underworld don Ravi Pujari on Bollywood producer Ali Morani there were reports that the don had even threatened Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan. Rumors have it that the don had threatened SRK to hand him the distribution rights of Shahrukh's upcoming film HAPPY NEW YEAR.

However, the truth has come to fore. According to a national daily Pujari, prior to assaulting Morani, had called him and asked him to persuade Shah Rukh Khan to participate in a show that he wished to organize for his buddies abroad but Morani declined and this raged Pujari and he sent his men at Morani’s house to teach him a lesson.

The report claims when Pujari could not get his work done by Morani, he even called on the landline number of SRK’s Red Chilles office. However contradicting the news reports underworld don Ravi Pujari in a statement to media has reported that he is a great fan of Shah Rukh Khan and respects him to his bottom of heart.

In a statement to press, he humbly confessed, “Yes it’s true that I had called at SRK’s Red Chillies office on landline number. But the call was not for any extortion or threat but a request to be passed on to SRK not to work with people who are linked to Dawood or Rajan such as Morani brothers.”

It may be noted that like Pujari, the fascination of underworld dons for Bollywood stars and movies is known to be their weakness.

Dawood Ibrahim, the mafia don of International crime, in the 80’s conducted many entertainment shows of Bollywood stars in Dubai and Bollywood stars from Anil Kapoor, Govinda, Salman Khan and many more would take part. In fact Dawood Ibrahim even had an illicit affair with Bollywood heroine Mandakini, the heroine of Raj Kapoor’s hit movie RAM TERI GANGA MAILI.

Renowned gold and silver smuggler of the early 70’s, Haji Mastan, on whose life the character of Amitabh Bachchan was designed in DEEWAAR, had such an obsession for film stars that he had even turned film producer and made few movies.

He had good friendship with thespian Dilip Kumar, Sunil Dutt and many film personalities. He had married actress Sona, a lookalike of the yesteryears’ beauty, Madhubala and produced few films with her as heroine.

Abhishek Bachchan To Flaunt Shirtless For Promoting HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Surprised reading the title that Abhishek Bachchan, would flaunt shirtless for promoting the movie, HAPPY NEW YEAR?

Well it no joke but true! Abhishek Bachchan has truly reduced his extra kilos for the movie HAPPY NEW YEAR and is looking debonair. What’s more he would also be promoting the movie shirtless to display his six packs like the Khan’s did prior to the release of their movies. Remember Shah Rukh Khan for OM SHANTI OM, Aamir Khan at the release of GHAJINI. Regarding Salman Khan he goes shirtless at the flick of a second.

Listen to Abhishek Bachchan Songs on Raaga.com

According reports Abhishek Bachchan has worked rigorously on his weight and his fans can expect to see a new rejuvenated, fit and trim, Abhishek Bachchan in the Farha Khan directed HAPPY NEW YEAR.

Abhishek Bachchan in an interview said, “I was motivated by Shah Rukh Khan on the sets of Happy New Year. Even my co-star Sonu Sood, who is health freak, has inspired me to work on my weight and reduce the extra kilos.”

He added, “My motivation took wings when Shah Rukh Khan gave me a challenge that if I reduce my weight and got into shape than he would allow me to go shirtless on the world tour. This challenge worked wonders and I have lost around 7-9 kg working rigorously on my strict diet and exercise.”

Abhishek Bachchan fans can now expect to see their heartthrob flaunting a shirtless body during promotion of the HAPPY NEW YEAR.

Abhishek Bachchan, despite giving sensational performances in YUVA, SARKAR and GURU has been unfortunate to make it big in Bollywood. Even the recent success of DHOOM 3 did not help him much to give a boost to his fading career. However the actor is keeping his figures crossed and hoping a new lease of life with Shah Rukh Khan’s upcoming movie HAPPY NEW YEAR.

Yash Raj’s Film MARDAANI Under Fire Of Plagiarism

Rani Mukerji’s much acclaimed film, MARDAANI that is drawing wide acclaims across the nation for its bold presentation of human trafficking has come under the fire of being plagiarized of another Bollywood film released this year, CHILDREN OF WAR, which was earlier titled, THE BASTARD CHILD.

Mrityunjay Devvrat, who has directed the critically acclaimed film CHILDREN OF WAR has alleged that Yash Raj films has not just plagiarized certain scenes from his movie but the basic plot of human trafficking has been lifted from his movie CHILDREN OF WAR.

Listen to Bollywood Songs on Raaga.com

It may be noted that CHILDREN OF WAR was recently released in May 2014 and won many critical acclaim for realistically exposing the rape and flesh trade of young Bangladeshi girls and women during the Bangladesh liberation war in 1970. The movie vividly depicted the barbarity and brutality of human trafficking and was conceived after a lot of research which included speaking to journalists, war veterans, refugees and friends, and acquiring and pouring over books that had been banned. The highpoint of the movie was it’s aesthetically presentation.

Expressing his rage over his movie’s being copied, Mrityunjay Devvrat told media, “From the very fundamental concept of MARDAANI to umpteen scenes, the film director Pradeep Sarkar and producer Aditya Chopra have bluntly adapted my movie CHILDREN OF WAR.”

Listen to Bollywood Songs on Raaga.com

He added, “Regarding the concept I have no issues because human trafficking is common in India and many parts of the world however, what hurts me is that the director Pradeep Sarkar has coolly lifted scenes such as the one where women are hauled into a truck, segregated and then hosed down with a pipe bear striking resemblance with sequences from my film.”

He added, “The highpoint of my movie was my extensive research and the barbaric and violent scenes of rape and human trafficking presented aesthetically. However it’s devastatingly that the very scenes which I have filmed so glaringly have been plagiarized.”

“The tragic part is that new directors like me, who make small budget films, do not get the laurels. While big budget film makers like Yash Chopra who borrow our subject and shamelessly steal scenes and sequences win national and international acclaims,” he lamented!

It’s Raining Women-Centric Films In Bollywood

With the mega success of Ranj Mukerjee’s MARDANI, Vidya Balan’s THE DIRTY PICTURE, KAHAANI and Sridevi’s , ENGLISH VINGLISH doing not just roaring business at the box office but winning critical acclaim many more women centric movies are in pipeline. According to a trade analyst more recently, the tide seems to be turning in favour of films with women-oriented scripts gaining acceptance in the industry. In addition actresses too are more open to playing protagonists for a change.

Listen to Bollywood Actress Songs on Raaga.com

Among the movies that are ready to roll include Priyanka Chopra’s MARY KOM, Bipasha Basu’s CREATURE, Deepika Padukone’s FINDING FANNY and Sonam Kapoor’s KHOOBSURAT. With these movies it seems the golden era of the 50’s and 60’s is coming alive when actresses like Meena Kumar (PAKEEZA), Nargis (MOTHER INDIA), Nutan (SUJATA), Waheeda Rehman (GUIDE) etc. did women centric movies and won acclaim at par with the heroes.

Applauding the success of women centric movies grabbing attention Girish Wankhede, Head Marketing, PVR Pictures in an interview candidly confessed, “Women centric movies is not a new phenomena. In the past there have been many movies like Hema Malini (SEETA AUR GEETA), Sridevi (CHALBAAZ) and Madhuri Dixit (BETA) etc. In fact each year there has been at least one film or more every year which used to be a hit due to a female protagonist in there.”

He added, “Now in the new era, films like QUEEN show that actresses can drive a film if backed by great production house, good marketing and strong content. MARDAANI has been showing some strength and CREATURE should follow suit too.''

Listen to Bollywood Actress Songs on Raaga.com

Vidya Balan, who is known to do women centric films feels, “A good film will always do good business, irrespective of its theme. People react to human beings and their stories. The only criterion is how well a story is told. How else can you explain that GRAVITY bagged seven Oscars besides being the sixth highest grossing film of 2013?”

Shabana Azmi, known for portraying strong women centric roles like ARTH, MANDI, ANKUR, GODMOTHER etc agrees with Vidya Balan, she said, “There is a misconception among filmmakers that only male oriented movies work at box office. However whenever a good women centric movie is made it has been appreciated. Vidya Balan’s women-centric films have had commercial success, and in the past too, films of Meena Kumari and Nutan were very successful. Who can forget women centric movies like Bandini, Seema, Sujata , Insaaf Ka Tarazu, Damini, Lajja… the list is long”

Richard Attenborough, Who Immortalized ‘Gandhi’ On Screen, No More!

Oscar-winning British film director, actor and producer Richard Attenborough, who reinvented Father of Nation, Mahatma Gandhi, in his Hollywood movie GANDHI, died in London at the ripe age of 90.

Though Sir Richard Attenborough has an immense contribution to Hollywood but he shall always remain a darling of India for his intimate biopic GANDHI (1982), which played a vital role in bringing Mahatma Gandhi close to the lives of millions of the young Indian, who have been born after Independence.

Among the film celebrities’ actor and filmmaker Anil Kapoor paying tribute to the great filmmaker rightly said, “I learnt more about the Mahatma from Attenborough's GANDHI than the history lessons in school. The movie is truly unforgettable, honest and inspirational!”

Renowned author, Shobhaa De in her condolence said, “Richard Attenborough convinced the world that a Mahatma did indeed walk the earth.”

Milap Zaveri, an Indian young film writer and director in his tribute aptly says, “Sir Richard Attenborough...Now the "Mahatma" can personally congratulate you in heaven for telling his story so brilliantly.”

True indeed! Because Sir Richard Attenborough’s GANDHI, is regarded as the best ever film made on the life of the great Indian freedom fighter. Readers would be rather surprised to know that it took Richard Attenborough 20 years to make the film. Though the movie was released in 1982 but it was conceived more than 20 years ago as it was the dream project of India’s first Prime Minister, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru. In fact Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru himself had met filmmaker Richard Attenborough and briefed him about Mahatma and the quality of biopic.

The movie was an Indo-British production. India’s NFDC had financed the film and from Britain, Hollywood producers were reluctant to finance as they felt there would be no audience for “a little brown man in a sheet carrying a beanstalk. Hence Sir Attenborough ended up producing it himself. It is said Attenborough had mortgaged his house in a London suburb, sold works of art and invested everything but made no compromise in making the film.

The result was GANDHI was not only a blockbuster in India but was globally declared money grosser. The movie was nominated in 11 categories for Oscar Award and won 8 awards including best picture, best director, best cinematography, best original screenplay and best actor.

Raaga.Com pays homage to the legendary filmmaker and prays his soul rest in peace.

Has Underworld Returned To Bollywood?

The news of underworld don Ravi Pujari’s shooters entering film producer Ali Morani's house in Juhu, Mumbai’s western suburbs and firing five rounds has sent shock waves among Bollywood celebs and raised a debate - Has ‘Underworld returned to Bollywood’?

According to reports Ravi Pujari, a hoodlum and close of aid of the infamous don Chhota Rajan, had been calling Ali Moorani for extortion money but Morani paid no heed. Hence in fury Pujari sent his shooters to Morani's house and fired shots to make the producer realize that the calls were not bogus. Fortunately Morani was unhurt.

Listen to Bollywood Songs on Raaga.com

Morani brothers (Ali and Karim) have produced successful films like `RAJA HINDUSTANI`, `DAMINI`, `DUSHMANI`, `HUMKO TUMSE PYAAR HAI` among many others.

The attack on Morani has brought the back the memories of Bollywood and underworld nexus to fore.

Famous producer Boney Kapoor, who had received death threats from Ravi Pujari’s gang earlier in an interview, condemned the security agencies for such attacks. He had said, “I feel that the security forces are incompetent as a result these gangsters become strong and feel they are fully capable of nipping anything right in the bud.”

Eminent film producer Rakesh Roshan, who was shot at in January 2000 when he was leaving his office, believes, “I think there is some nexus between underworld and few contemptible producers, who make films using the black money of the underworld and when they are unable to return profits, the underworld hits back at them and in their clash, even clean film producers like me became targets.”

Pritish Nandy of Pritish Nandy Communications Ltd warns, “If these threats spread like an epidemic then it will become a big problem to film industry hence the whole industry should come together and take a strong stand.”

It may be remembered filmmaker Rajiv Rai, who has made several blockbuster hits like TRIDEV, MOHRA and GUPT, had left India after an attempt was made on his life by the underworld in 1997.

However, this is not the first time that a high-profile celebrity has got threats by the Underworld. Several B-Town biggies like Salman Khan, Shah Rukh Khan, Akshay Kumar, Govinda and Karan Johar too have got threats from the dons.

Born in a Kutchi family in Kutch, (Gujarat) business run in the blood of the family, however the two brothers were least interested in business and had a passion for music.

Though the brothers would spend time in their father’s provision shop after school, their heart lay in music and would spend long hours listening music on a neighbor’s gramophone.

Anandji in an interview said, “One day our father observed our genuine love for music hence he persuaded a local music teacher to teach us music. In the name of fees my father gave him household grocery and provisions free.”

In the year 1952 famous music director Hemant Kumar was impressed by my elder brother Kalyanjibhai and offered him to be his assistant. It was during his tenure as assistant he introduced the famous ‘been music’ for the movie NAAGIN.

Recalling the incident Anandji informed, “Hemant Kumar was giving music for NAAGIN, starring Vyjayanthimala and Pradeep Kumar. The ‘been music’ was an important element of the film. While discussing music with Hemant Kumar, Kalyanjibhai came up with the idea of introducing the ‘been music’ effect by the new electronic instrument called the ‘clavioline’, which was making waves in England. Hemant Kumar was impressed and that’s how Kalyanji Bhai imported the instrument from London and created a dhamal in Indian Music world”.

Later Kalyanji Anandji became independent music director with SAMRAT CHANDRAGUPTA and with the movie JAB JAB PHOOL KHILE they became star music directors.

Are Virat Kohli And Anushka Sharma Heading For Marriage?

The cat is out of the bag. It has been revealed why Virat Kohli, the swashbuckling fiery batsman of Indian Cricket team has been a total washout in the England tour. According to reports splashing in media, the dashing batsman has been spotted with his girl friend, eminent Bollywood actress Anushka Sharma, sharing the same hotel, where the Indian Cricket Team is staying!!

In fact there have been grapevines about the duo soon planning to tie the nuptial knot ever since both Virat Kohli and Anushka Sharma were first spotted together during the tour of New Zealand. Further the couple spending the England tour together has cemented the belief that the couple are on verge of marriage.

Listen to Bollywood Songs on Raaga.com

According to leading national daily Anushka Sharma has been staying with Virat Kohli since the first Test match ended at Trent Bridge on July 13. A reliable source from London reported, “Away from the glares of the paparazzi of India, the duo, Anushka Sharma and Virat Kohli, are having a ball time together in England. The couple has been spotted spending romantic evenings, arm in arm, at many places in England.”

It is alleged that it’s BCCI’s decision to allow the Bollywood actress to stay with the cricketer. However India's team manager Sunil Dev denies the allegation. He argues, “I don’t know who has granted permission to Kohli to stay with his girlfriend. However, I am against this rule. I will definitely speak to the BCCI about this lapse.”

It may be noted that this is not the first time that Anushka Sharma and Virat Kohli’s romance has hit headlines. Earlier this year in May, Virat Kohli had air dashed to Jodhpur to celebrate Anushka Sharma birthday, where she was shooting for her home production, NH10.

The duo has been dating since December 2013. In January this year, Virat had even stayed at Anushka's residence for a few days!!

However despite all these testimonies Anushka Sharma denies all these reports. In a press release through her representative she claimed, "There are several stories online about my wedding with Virat Kohli. However I would like to set the record straight that there is absolutely no truth to these rumours and I would like to request you to refrain from conjecturing about the same.”

Why Rajnikant Outshines The Khans And Bachchans Of Bollywood? - Part III

In mid 80’s South Superstar Rajnikant made his debut in Bollywood opposite Bollywood superstar Amitabh Bachchan in ANDHA KANOON and like south he was accepted with open hands.

With Rajnikant’s movie SIVAJI - THE BOSS, he, become the nation’s highest paid actors as he had reportedly charged an exorbitant Rs.16 crores! A fee not paid even to Bollywood’s so-called Superstars, the Khans and Bachchan’s in the year 2007!

Listen to Rajnikanth Songs on Raaga.com

What makes Rajnikant ‘Tall’ amongst Bollywood biggies is the fact that Rajnikant, with his commercial influence limited to the four southern states and no national or international release, yet the sale of his movies go up to Rs 100-200 crore and this is truly mind boggling!

In addition to this readers’ would be surprised to know that when his much publicized movie ‘BABA’ fell short of market expectations accumulating heavy losses for its distributors. Rajnikanth himself returned the losses back to the distributors, a feat never ever witnessed in Bollywood! It is believed the whole affair cost him dear but the Superstar recovered it all with his next release CHANDRAMUKHI, which is claimed to be one of the most successful Tamil films till date as it ran in theatres for over 600 days!

Listen to Rajnikanth Songs on Raaga.com

Rajnikant’s devotion to his work is applauded by all. It’s believed the actor indulges completely in any movie he does. Unlike Bollywood where directors complain about actors like Aamir khan interfering in the movie, in south the directors themselves invite Rajnikant to participate in story session to music. Readers won’t believe Rajnikant has a fan club from whom the actor takes suggestion and as per their taste he delivers the best. Another interesting fact which readers may not know is that in his each movie the actor delivers a punch line like …

En vazni, thani vazni, seendaathe!

(My path is diverse; do not dare to come in between!) or

Naan oru thadava sonna nooru thadava sonnamathiri

(My one statement is equivalent to hundred times)

These punch lines are actually picked by a poll contest which is held each time a new movie is announced and from the innumerous punch lines received, Rajnikant himself selects the best line!

For the past 40 years Rajnikant is the undaunted superstar of the south and the most respected citizen. He has been awarded with nation’s highest civilian award Padma Bhushan, today Rajnikant is the highest earning actor of Tamil film industry and a respected name in politics. Readers may recall even, Prime Minster Narendra Modi, too took his blessing while contesting the election.

Amyra Dastur In Awe Of Dhanush!

Amyra Dastur, the Parsee babe from Mumbai, who is doing a Tamil film 'ANEGAN' opposite South Sensation, Dhanush is quite in awe of the star. In an interview she said, “Dhanush is such a huge star yet I was bowled over by his humility and down to earth attitude.”

She continued, “Being a Parsee and brought up in a sophisticated society, with English language as backdrop, I have problem in speaking Tamil language. When I began shooting for the film, I would fumble a lot and feel embarrassed but I was really touched by Dhanush, who motivated me all the time. To build my confidence he would often give his own example how he struggled with Hindi language while doing Raanjhanaa.”

Listen to Dhanush Songs on Raaga.com

Amyra who made her debut with Bollywood movie 'ISSAQ' is making waves in the Indian film industry and getting many offers both from Bollywood and South film industry. She is renowned for her television commercial advertisements like Clean & Clear, Dove, Vodafone and Micromax Mobiles.

Stimulated by her co-star Dhanush’s dedication to his profession and zero arrogance despite being such a big star, Amyra said, “Today when actor’s become snobbish and pompous soon after the success of just a single film, I am really in awe of Dhanush.”

She added, “He is not just a sensation down South but is a mega star in Bollywood after RAANJHANAA. What’s more he is also working with Amitabh Bachchan yet he has no ego or haughtiness. He arrives on time and surrenders completely to his directors, making no interference in the script or arguments over his dialogues. Truly he is a director’s delight and India needs many more actors like Dhanush!”

Rajnikanth Unarguable ‘Thaliavaa’ of Indian Cinema - Part II

Renowned for his trademark gestures viz. flipping a cigarette in the air and catching it in his mouth or rotating his glasses a number of times, Rajnikant’s life story is a rag to riches tale. The superstar before joining films was working as a bus conductor in the Karnataka State Transport Corporation in Bangalore. However, his passion for cinema and his liking for his role module, Bollywood actor, Shatughan Sinha, motivated him to join the Madras Film Institute.

Born on December 12, 1949, in Karnataka, Rajnikant’s real name is Shivaji Rao Gaekwad. It’s quite astonishing that despite being a Tamil megastar, he is not Tamil! His mother tongue is Marathi but he has not done a single Marathi movie. His near and dear ones lovingly call him by his nickname – ‘Baba’.

Listen to Rajnikanth Songs on Raaga.com

It’s reported that during his tenure as bus conductor, he caught the fancy of the bus travelers with his mannerisms and style of issuing tickets. Aspiring to become an actor, he moved to Chennai and joined the film institute. It was here that he caught the eye of K. Balachander, a director known for introducing talented, new faces into the Tamil film industry.

Balachander gave him a small role - as the no-good husband of Srividya - in ABOORVA RAAGANGAL and the rest, as they say, is history.

Rajnikanth soon graduated to playing main villain and his style, swagger and casually unique brand of villainy vowed the movie-going public. Be it the sadistic husband of Sujatha in AVARGAL or the wolf in sheep's clothing in MOONDRU MUDICHU or the lust-filled village rowdy in Bharathiraja's 16 VAYADHINILE, Rajnikanth was the villain the people loved to hate.

Soon filmmakers decided to bank on the popularity of Rajnikant and from villain he was made a hero in BHAIRAVI

Rajnikanth firmly captured the vacant, action-hero slot in Tamil movies with a series of movies where he routinely bashed up the bad guys who had done him injustice in one way or the other. Once in a while he did movies like AARULIRUNDHU ARUBADHU VARAI or JOHNY which gave us glimpses of his acting potential.

In fact in 80’s, he played a Hindu saint in his 100th movie, SRI RAGHAVENDRA. And later he played an out and out comedy in 'THILLU MULLU', a remake of Bollywood hit GOLMAAL. But action was what the fans expected from a Rajni movie and action was what he gave them.

NOTE: In the next issue read about Rajnikant’s foray into Bollywood.

South Indian Cinema buffs have reason to celebrate because the Megastar Chiranjeevi, who has entertained millions of film buffs through three decades with his inimitable style, has given his approval for his 150th movie after lot of speculations.

Reports claim the actor, who had put on weight during his career in politics has trimmed considerably and looked dashing and handsome. He has done a photo shot for his 150 th film. The movie will be produced by his loving son Ram Charan Teja. It will be a colossal venture that will be a complete ‘masala’ flick with tons of action and comedy. Briefing the media a member of the production revealed that after an exhaustive session of scripts reading Chiranjeevi sir has approved a script that is a complete commercial, a typical Chiranjeevi kind of movie which is loved by his fans.

It may be noted several leading directors like VV Vinayak, Rajamouli, Shankar, Puri Jagannath, Krishna Vamsi, Boyapati Srinu and Vikram Kumar have been visiting Chiranjeevi with scripts ranging from historical to social oriented theme with message but Chiranjeevi declined all.

According to the production member, “Chiranjeevi sir has been flooded with hundreds of scripts in the past few months. He was patiently reading the scripts but after lot of pondering he has given his consent to a wholesome entertaining script because he does not wish to disappoint his fans who love him fighting goons, dancing around with heroines in the bushes and delivering spellbinding dialogues.”

Insiders claim the production house has declared a whopping remuneration of Rs 1crore for the director with an exceptional script.

He has delivered blockbusters like ‘AADI’ and ‘TAGORE’ in the past, as well as some good hits like ‘ADHURS’ and ‘NAYAK’.

Sonakshi Sinha And Sonam Kapoor At Loggerheads Over Salman Khan

Bollywood beauties Sonakshi Sinha and Sonam Kapoor are at loggerheads because the buzz is that Salman Khan has discarded Sooraj Barjatya’s choice of Sonakshi Sinha as his heroine in Rajshri Production’s upcoming movie PREM RATAN DHAN PAAYO and instead suggested Sonam Kapoor.

As a result Sonakshi Sinha is accusing Sonam Kapoor of grabbing her role. The two actresses are at warheads and are avoiding each other at public events. The ball is set for another Bollywood catfight.

Briefing media a fuming Sonakshi Sinha lambasted, “It is ridiculous! How can Salman Khan replace me with Sonam Kapoor in the movie PREM RATAN DHAN PAAYO? I make a stunning chemistry with Salman Khan. The super duper success of DABANGG and DABANGG 2 is enough to prove.”

However sources close to Rajshri Production claim that Salman Khan has taken the decision solely on his own as he wished to be paired with a fresh heroine. But the multi dollar question – Is Sonam Kapoor a fresh Heroine? Well that only Salman Khan can tell!

However though filmmaker Sooraj Barjatya may be putting the ounce upon Salman Khan for choosing Sonam Kapooor as his heroine but the fact is that Sonakshi Sinha was the original choice of filmmaker Sooraj Barjatya as he wished to bank on the success of Salman Khan - Sonakshi Sinha Jodi of DABANGG series.

Readers may wonder so what went wrong? Well an insider claims that when the planning for the heroine of the movie PREM RATAN DHAN PAAYO was being held and Sonakshi Sinha was almost finalized, Anil Kapoor, eminent actor and father of Sonam Kapoor interfered and urged Salman Khan to endorse her daughter Sonam Kapoor.

Salman Khan being a great pal of Anil Kapoor agreed. Readers may know that Salman Khan has a soft corner for Anil Kapoor. It may be recalled when Sonam Kapoor was introduced in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s SAAWARIYA (2007) Anil Kapoor had requested Salman Khan to do a cameo to add glitter to the movie and Sallu Bhai, being golden hearted had obliged!

Superstar Rajinikanth, considered as a Demi - God especially when it comes to his huge fan following down south completed four decades in the film industry recently. The superstar along with actress Sonakshi Sinha, who is working with the living legend in ‘LINGAA’, celebrated the occasion on the films’ sets in Chennai.

Raaga.Com saluting the legendary actor presents a series of articles to celebrate the magnums event.

Rajinikanth born as Shivaji Rao Gaekwad has come a long way from being a bus conductor to the heart throb of the nation. The magic of Rajnikant is such that he is considered as a Demi-God in South. His fans are so obsessed with the star that to ensure success of each of his movies they perform poojas on the opening day of his movie and huge cutouts of Rajnikant are garlanded with flowers. And what’s more his fans buy tickets in black at exorbitant prices!

Rajinikanth made his debut in Tamil cinema with ‘APOORVA RAAGANGAL’ in 1975, where he played a supporting role of an abusive husband opposite Srividya. Some of his hits in the 80’s included ‘PADIKKATHAVAN’, ‘THEE’, ‘VELAIKARAN’, ‘DHARMATHIN THALAIVAN’, ‘MR. BHARATH’, AND ‘MAAVEERAN’. His 100th film ‘SRI RAGHAVENDRA’ saw him playing the Hindu Saint Raghavendra Swami.

Rajnikant’s phenomenal success soon became so intense that even film directors feared to ‘Kill Off’ his character in the movie for fear that the theatre would be burnt down by his crazy fans as was noticed in a one of a rare case in a village in south.

Recalling the incident the theater owner, who wishes to remain anonymous, said, “Rajnikant explodes like a tiger on screen but if the actor is shown in bad light as was shown during a scene in the movie PADAYAPPA where the villain insults Rajnikant by not offering him a chair to sit! The audience in the cinema hall went berserk abusing the director and torching the cinema hall! Ever since that ghastly episode, directors think twice before calling the shots.”
