Remembering film celebrities who bid adieu in 2015

Duniya se jaane wale; Jaane chale jate hai kaha

Kaise dhude koi unko; Nahi kadamo ke bhi nisha

How true words because people who leave this world for heavenly abode never come back and till date mankind has not been able to trace where the mortals go as there is no impression even of their foot prints. Thus with the year 2015 coming to its end many talented celebrities of Indian cinema bid us adieu. Raaga.Com remembers these departed souls and pray they rest in peace.

Taking about Bollywood it lost two veteran celebrities viz. actor Saeed Jaffrey, who died on November 15 at the ripe age of at 86 and the bewitching beautiful actress Sadhana died on 25th December at the age of 74 years.

While Saeed Jaffrey was the first Indian actor to open doors for Indian actor in Hollywood, Sadhana was known as the First Diva of Indian Cinema who set many fashion trends among the youth. She introduced the fringe hairstyle to the industry and made it a fashion statement.

Besides these two legends Bollywood lost two music wizards Ravindra Jain, who continued the legacy of classical music in Bollywood and young music director Aadesh Srivastata, who composed music for more than 100 Hindi films died in Mumbai due to cancer on September 5, a day after he turned 51.

Among those who expired in South Indian cinema include M S Viswanathan aka MSV and popularly known as Mellisai Mannar (The king of light music). He worked in over 750 films in Tamil, Telugu and Malayalam. He died on 14th July.

Manorama, also known as Aachi, was the other veteran Tamil actress to expire this year on October 10. She held the Guinness world record of acting in over 1,000 films. She also acted with five chief ministers including Anna Durai, M G Ramachandran, M Karunanidhi, N T Rama Rao and J Jayalalithaa.

Popular Telugu actor Ahuti Prasad died of cancer at a private hospital in Hyderabad on 4 January.

31-year-old Telugu actress Aarthi Agarwal shocks the film industry by her sudden death in June.

Tollywood comedian, Kolluri Chidambara Rao, popularly known as 'Kallu' Chidambaram died of a respiratory ailment when he was 67 on 19th October

Popular Punjabi and Bollywood singer Labh Janjua, known for his hit songs London Thumakda (QUEEN), Dil Kare Chu Che (SINGH IS BLIING) died on October 22 under mysterious circumstances.

Comedian Kapil Sharma steps into Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khans’ shoes!

The stupendous rise of comedian Kapil Sharma is very much akin to Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan. Just as Shah Rukh Khan made his entry in Bollywood via TV likewise Kapil Sharma has paved his path into stardom from TV to the big screen with mega success of his debut film KIS KISKO PYAAR KAROON that was a huge hit in 2015 minting more than 50 Crore.

Incidentally it was Abbas–Mustan’s film BAAZIGAR that made Shah Rukh Khan a superstar and coincidently Kapil Sharma’s KIS KISKO PYAAR KAROON, is also directed Abbas –Mustan!

Now the latest news is that the ace comedian has kicked aside Shah Rukh Khan and occupied his place!

Well before you make wild imaginations, let me clarify that Kapil Sharma has just toppled Badshah Khan from the celebrated Annual Star Screen Awards, which the superstar has been hoisting for the last three years consecutively!

A source from the Screen Awards informed that they have decided to hire Kapil Sharma because he is innovative and has a patent style of comedy. He said, “Kapil has been attending meetings and has been going through a lot of scripts of late. The comedian is not leaving anything untouched to make his act as the most memorable one with afresh touch of jokes and humor.”

It may be noted that the 22nd Annual Star Screen Awards will be held in the first week of the January 2016. The show will be aired in the last week of January on Star Plus. Annual Star Screen Awards are regarded as the most prestigious and unbiased film awards presented by the Indian Express Group of Publication.

It is thus worth pondering that today Kapil Sharma has occupied Shah Rukh Khan’s place in an Film Awards Nite, one doesn’t know tomorrow he may occupy the Numero Uno position in Bollywood topping King Khan from his undisputed throne that he has held so meticulously for the past two decades!

Indian film actresses who dared to refuse ‘Kiss’ scenes on screen!

A Lip-Lock or ‘Kiss’ in Indian Cinema has become an integral part, in fact, a Bollywood film is incomplete without a hot Chumma! However there are few actors who have refrained from obliging the film director’s demand of doing a ‘Kiss’ scenes.

Recently eminent actress Aishwarya Rai Bachchan expressed her reservation and declined to kiss the film’s hero Ranbir Kapoor in her forthcoming film AE DIL HAI MUSHKIL

According to reports the movie has an intimate scene between Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Ranbir Kapoor. To give authenticity to the film director Karan Johar wished to can a tender lip lock between the two but Aishwarya Rai Bachchan declined to follow his diktat. Finally Karan Johar shot the scene using trick photography.

Besides Aishwarya Rai Bachchan there are few more competent actress who have stuck to their ethics and desisted from indulging in kiss scenes.

Among the first actress who challenged the norms was Hema Malini. In the 70’s with hot actresses like Zeenat Aman, Praveen Babi, Simi Garewal etc invading Bollywood and daring to be bold, Hema Malini stuck to her guns and despite being in love relation with Dharmendra, she declined kissing scenes on screen!

Sonakshi Sinha, daughter of Shatrughan Sinha, has lived up to the reputation of her family and despite over so many years in Bollywood she has not done even a single lip lock scene in her career though she creates ripples in the heart of her male fans with her dazzling smile!

It’s not just Bollywood, even down South there are few actresses who have the guts to say NO to kiss scenes. Any guesses who are they?

Well the sexy Tamanna and the beautiful Asin are the best examples. Interestingly both the actresses even did Bollywood films but did not comply with the demands of filmmakers of doing a lip lock scene!!!

REVEALED! How filmmaker Shanker discovered Akshay Kumar for playing antagonist in ENTHIRAN 2

Filmmaker Shanker’s upcoming film ENTHIRAN 2 (ROBOT 2) will go down in the history of Indian Cinema as the most talked about film as far as the casting of its lead villain is considered. The movie created a hell lot of suspense, more chilling than an Alfred Hitchcock suspense thriller about the main villain for his upcoming film ENTHIRAN 2 (ROBOT 2).

Names of top notch actors, ranging from Bollywood superstars like Aamir Khan to Amitabh Bachchan to Hrithik Roshan to South Indian film superstars like Vikram to Vijay to Hollywood iconic actor Arnold Schwarzenegger made buzz in both print and electronic media to be cast as main antagonist.

However on December 16, 2015, when Shanker launched the shooting of the film ENTHIRAN 2 (ROBOT 2) he took everybody by surprise by announcing the name of Bollywood action king Akshay Kumar as the main antagonist opposite Rajinikanth in the film!

So the multimillion dolor question is when Shanker was in talks with above mention superstars than how did he suddenly discover Akshay Kumar to play the main villain?

Well, if reports are to be believed Shanker had never ever thought of Akshay Kumar as lead villain in ENTHIRAN 2 (ROBOT 2).

However just prior to the days of shooting his anxiety increased as Arnold Schwarzenegger, who was almost fixed for the role, gave Shanker the last minute jolt by demanding a whopping Rs 100 crore!

Hence Shanker’s anxiety new no bound as the day of shooting came closer. Watching her film director in utter anxiety film actress Amy Jackson, who plays the lead heroine in the film, recommended Shanker the name of Akshay Kumar.

Akshay Kumar, who shares a warm relation with Amy, as he had recommended her in the film SINGH IS BLIING, could not say ‘No’ to her and obliged.

Thus ending the climax and filmmaker Shanker’s anxiety!

Is Shah Rukh Khan the reason behind Sanjay Leela Bhansali and Salman Khan’s cold war?

Now that the cat is out of the bag everybody is aware that Salman Khan was the original choice of Sanjay Leela Bhansali for BAJIRAO MASTANI, so what went wrong and Bhansali had to opt for Ranveer Singh? Read On….

In an interview Sanjay Leela Bhansali has broken his silence about the cold war that has been prevailing between the two famous celebrities since long.

Responding to a direct question by an eminent journalist as to what went wrong between him and Salman Khan, Bhansali candidly replied, “Actually Salman Khan and I share a cordial relationship. We have done three films together viz. KHAMOSHI THE MUSICAL, HUM DIL DE CHUKE SANAM and SAAWARIYA.”

“Hence during the making of these films we came so close that Salman began expecting a lot from me, forgetting that when I make a movie I have my own vision and particular actors in mind. As a filmmaker I expect to do movies that touch my soul. That give me personnel solace to quench my thirst for my creative thirst,” he reasoned.

He added, “Hence when I announced DEVDAS, Salman Khan was excepting me to cast him in the lead. But when I announced Shah Rukh Khan’s name instead of him, Salman Khan was probably hurt.”

Sanjay Leena Bhansali clarifies, “There was no personnel grudge against Salman Khan that I opted for Shah Rukh Khan. The main reason why I selected Shah Rukh to play DEVDAS was that he is a competent actor and has a better conviction in doing emotional roles.”

“But unfortunately Salman Khan misunderstood or was perhaps poisoned by his colleagues against me. Whatever may be the reason, for when I started BAJIRAO MASTANI, I was convinced Salman Khan was the right actor to do justice to the Peshwa Sardar but tragically Salman Khan declined the role and I was compelled to select Ranveer Singh,” he concludes.

Why was 2015 different for Bollywood superstar Salman Khan and Prince of Tollywood Mahesh Babu?

Any guesses what could be the link between Bollywood Superstar Salman Khan and Prince of Tollywood Mahesh Babu in the year 2015 and what made the duo different???

Well, both the superstars despite being the heartthrob of the masses for their action oriented films, in 2015 experimented with their images and dared to opt for emotional and social subjects.

While Salman Khan spread the message of secular harmony between India and Pakistan with BAJRANGI BHAIJAAN, on the other hand, Mahesh Babu sent the noble message of adopting village in his film SRIMANTHUDU

Interestingly both the films were welcomed with open hands by their fans and went on write new box-office history in the annals of Indian cinema. While Salman Khan’s BAJRANGI BHAIJAAN raked in a whopping Rs 626 crores worldwide; Mahesh Babu’s SRIMANTHUDU collected an enormous Rs 150 crore at the box office making it one of the actor’s biggest hits in his career.

What is surprising is that both Kabir Khan and Koratala Siva, the directors’ of BAJRANGI BHAIJAAN and SRIMANTHUDU had to face stiff opposition from the distributors as the films were against the action image of Salman Khan and Mahesh Babu but both the directors had confidence in the superlative script hence they successfully convinced the distributors.

In fact the real ‘Hero’ of 2015 has been fabulous scripts. Films with weak script, despite big budget failed to click like BOMBAY VELVET, SHAMITABH, ROY, DETECTIVE BYOMKESH BAKSHY! Etc. Similarly down South India, films with poor script like BRUCE LEE: THE FIGHTER, UTHAMA VILLAIN, LAILA O LAILA could not be hit despite top stars.

A.R. Rahman organizes ‘Nenje Ezhu’ concert to cheer people affected by December floods in Tamil Nadu

In an attempt to cheer the people affected by the devastation of December flood music wizard A.R. Rahman has organized a musical concert to be held in Chennai on 16th January; Coimbatore on 23rd of January 2016) and for the first time A.R. Rahman will be performing Live in Madurai on 31st January, 2016.

Briefing media about the concert A R Rahman said, “We have intentionally named the concert as ‘Nenje Ezhu’ concert because the devastative flood in Tamil Nadu has completely wrecked the state and people are still living in fear. Hence to cheer up the people of Tamil Nadu I decided to use my morale boosting song Nenje Ezhu…. From my film Dhanush starrer film MARYAN.”

He added, “We taken little creative liberty and altered few lines in the lyrics of the song Nenje Ezhu … to suit the Tamil Nadu flood devastation. The song is an excellent morale booster that not only cheers people but also peps up confidence and energy to face the odd conditions with smile and determination.”

Rahman informed that the concert is basically a fund raiser and a balm to give solace to the people by way of soothing music that could probably help in cheering the mood of the victims hit by the floods. The funds collected will be donated for the rehabilitation of flood victims.

Besides AR Rahman heading the concert many more celebrated singers from South Indian film fraternity have extended their support to the concert and will be part of the noble cause. Singers who will sing in this concerts include legendary singers like SPB, Hariharan, Haricharan, Karthik, Benny Dayal, Swetha Mohan, Sasha Juanita, Blaaze and many others.

“I have not performed in Chennai or Tamil Nadu much - I have probably done two or three concerts. I have performed in the U.S. more than here! Hence I think the concert would be unique and what’s more it will feature pure Tamil songs no Hindi songs,” Rahman quipped.

Ram Gopal Verma’s KILLING VEERAPPAN gets Thumps-Up from Amitabh Bachchan

After committing Hara-kiri with RAM GOPAL VARMA KI AAG filmmaker Ram Gopal Verma seems to be in his original avatar with his chilling crime thriller KILLING VEERAPPAN, a multilingual project being made in Telugu, Tamil and Hindi.

The trailer of the film has left star of millennium, Amitabh Bachchan spell bounded. Praising Ram Gopal Verma superstar Amitabh Bachchan tweeted, “The trailer of KILLING VEERAPPAN is pretty astounding!!”

Resounding to the compliment of Amitabh Bachchan, with whom Varma has worked in films like SARKAR, NISHABD and RAM GOPAL VARMA KI AAG, Verma in a lighter vain said, “Thank u Sarkar! I think with KILLING VEERAPPAN I really managed to pour some water on my Aag!

Everybody who is watching the trailer is going gaga over the movie’s captivating presentation and its realism. Bollywood actor Riteish Deshmukh too has praised the trailer. In his tweet he wrote, “What an outstanding promo of KILLING VEERAPPAN. RGV Sir your casting can’t get more real than this.”

Truly, the highlight of the movie is its lead actor Sandeep Bharadwaj, who plays Veerappan as he has striking similarity with the original dacoit. On being quizzed from where Verma discovered such a close looking actor Verma smiles, he says, “Actually Sandeep has no resemblance to Veerappan but real credit must go to my makeup artiste Vikram Gaekwad who transformed Sandeep into Veerappan.”

“However Sandeep deserves kudos for executing such a powerful performance. Sandeep is an aspiring youth from National School of Drama (NDA). After rejecting many actors I finally selected him to play the role of the sandalwood smuggler,” Verma informed.

The other major highlight of the film is that Verma has cleverly roped in Superstar Rajkumar’s son Shivrajkumar to play the chief officer to hunt down Veerappan in the film. It may be remembered Kannada superstar Rajkumar, who was abducted by Veerappan.

Verma says, “The prime reason to cast actor Rajkumar’s son Shivrajkumar was to create casting coup aspect, primarily because the real-life villain is being killed by the reel-life hero.

How Sadhana - The ‘Mystery Girl’ became Mystery for Bollywood!

Naina barasen rim-jhim rim-jhim….

Remember this super hit song from the film WHO KAUN THI staring Sadhana, the bewitchingly beautiful actress of yesteryear. Incidentally like the song millions of Sadhana’s fans shed tears when they heard of the sudden demise of their favorite actress on Friday December 25.

Eminent filmmaker Karan Johar paid her a befitting tribute. He said, “Your legacy of beauty, poise and utmost grace....will live on forever...”

Truly Sadhana was an epitome of beauty; wide big eyes, an attractive visage, pleasant smile and a delicate build made Sadhana quite a charmer and arguably the First Diva of Bollywood.

Bollywood film lyrist Hasrat Jaipuri rightly captured her beauty in the film ARZOO when he wrote the song praising her abundant beauty in the song….

Aye Phoolon Ki Rani, Bahaaron Ki Mallika,

Tera Muskurana Gazab Hogaya....

Such was her craze in the 60’s when Yash Chopra made the First Multi Starrer of Indian Cinema, WAQT staring iconic stars like Balraj Sahani, Sunil Dutt, Raaj Kumar and Shashi Kapoor Yash Chopra sidelined top actresses like Vyjayanthimala, Saira Banu, Asha Parekh etc and opted for Sadhana purely for her beauty that had taken the nation by storm, particularly the youth!

It was her sheer beauty that most of her films did excellent business at the box-office remember films like ASLI-NAQLI, EK MUSAFIR EK HASINA, MERE MEHBOOB, RAAJKUMAR, WOH KAUN THI, MERA SAYA, ARZOO the list is long.

However it is indeed a mystery that the Almighty who blessed Sadhana with such astounding beauty slowly and gradually took away her beauty so much so that she went into oblivion and declined to even face the media.

Sadhana who had earned the title of ‘Mystery Girl’ after playing multiple such roles as in WHO KUAN THI, MERA SAYA, ANITA etc. herself became a mystery for Bollywood!

According to reports she had developed thyroid which gradually began worsening her beauty. Her wide big eyes which attracted everybody were badly affected. It’s believed Sadhana not only hid herself from media and public glare but she even avoided looking at the mirror!

After she got her thyroid treated at a hospital in Boston, in US, she distanced herself from society. She didn’t mingle with anybody. She did come out once that too to support cancer patients. Ironically it was cancer that took her life.

Raaga.Com pays humble tribute to Sadhana and prays her soul rest in peace in heaven.

After Rajinikanth and Shah Rukh Khan, Ranbir Kapoor joins the race of ‘Superhero’ films with DRAGON!

The entire Bollywood from Amitabh Bachchan to Aamir Khan turned up to watch the Hollywood Superhero flick STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS thus depicting the craze about Superhero movies among the viewers.

Hollywood is known for its passion for such kind of films and is packed with many Superhero films lined up in 2016 like DEADPOOL, BATMAN V SUPERMAN: DAWN OF JUSTICE, X-MEN: APOCALYPSE etc.

Walking on the lines of Hollywood Indian cinema is also gearing up with many Superhero films in 2016.

Down South, South Indian film movie maverick Shanker is making the sequel of his super hit Sci-Fi film ROBOT (ENTHIRAN in Tamil- 2010) with Superstar Rajinikanth. To give the movie a pan India appeal Shanker has cleverly roped in Bollywood Superstar Akshay Kumar in the pivotal role of the antagonist. The movie has already started shooting and plans to release in 2016.

In Bollywood Shah Rukh Khan has revealed his plans to produce the sequel of RA.ONE. The sequel is titled as G.ONE.

And now the latest news is that Ranbir Kapoor’s lucky film director Ayan Mukerji, who has given two hits in a row with Ranbir Kapoor in the lead viz. WAKE UP SID and YEH JAWAANI HAI DEEWANI has finalized the script of a Superhero that he has been working for the past two years.

Briefing media film director Ayan Mukerji said, “I am ready with my Superhero script and it is called DRAGON. The movie will have Alia Bhatt opposite Ranbir Kapoor.”

He added, “Eminent film producer Karan Johar has been bowled over by the script and has given his nod to produce the film. I hope by 2016 I should start shooting for the film.”

Interestingly like BAAHUBALI: THE BEGINNING, Ranbir Kapoor’s film will be in three installments and the story from the first part will be taken ahead to the next film. Insiders say Ranbir Kapoor plays a Superhero who is bestowed with the superpower of fire.

Besides these there are even rumors doing the round that Boney Kapoor and Anil Kapoor are planning to make a sequel of their 80’s Sc-Fi hit film MR.INDIA!

Bollywood actress Evelyn Sharma celebrates Christmas festival for a cause!

Christmas is a festival of ‘giving’ because Lord Jesus Christ throughout his life gave away everything that he had in his life. In fact even when he was crucified on the cross he had no resentment, instead, he prayed to the Almighty for his enemies to forgive them for their ignorance.

Thus it is believed the best way to celebrate Christmas is to help the poor and the needy. A great philosopher said, “Christmas will became ‘Merry Christmas’, only when we celebrate it by giving the light of love to those who need it most and let the spirit of Christmas not be limited to single day, but the whole year!

Interestingly believing in the philosophy of ‘Giving’ famous Bollywood actress Evelyn Sharma recognized for her work in Bollywood movies like Yeh JAWAANI HAI DEWAANI and YAARIYAN has decided to celebrate this year’s holy Christmas festival by holding a fund-raising event called the 'Christmas Garage Sale'.

Briefing media about her plan she said, “I believe in the ideology of Swami Vivekananda, who aptly said, “To serve mankind is to serve God. Hence service to mankind is the best and the perfect prayer, deed or action.”

Explaining about her plan she said, “Under my NGO ‘Seams For Dreams’ (SFD), I have organized a fund raising event- the 'Christmas Garage Sale'. The aim of this fund raiser is to collect funds and help the poor and needy by providing warm clothes, shelter and blankets to the people living in cold regions of India.”

The event is supported by many Bollywood personalities like Alia Bhatt, Parineeti Chopra, Anushka Sharma, Deepika Padukone etc.

Raaga.Com appreciates Evelyn Sharma for her noble deeds and wishes her and all our readers a Merry Christmas!!!

Is Shah Rukh Khan again trying to compete with Rajinikanth with G.ONE?

Everybody is aware that Bollywood Superstar Shah Rukh Khan was bowled over with South Superstar Rajinikanth’s spectacular Sci-Fi film ROBOT (ENTHIRAN in Tamil- 2010) and had decided to produce a similar Sc-Fi film, which he did with RA.ONE (2011).

However despite a more expensive budget, an equally hi-fi special effects and multi star cast RA.ONE, RA.ONE failed to achieve even 10% of what Rajinikanth’s ROBOT did!

What is surprising is that to get his movie the ‘Midas Touch’ Shah Rukh Khan had even requested the ‘Thalivar’ Rajinikanth to do a cameo in RA.ONE, which he obliged. Tragically even Rajinikanth’s special appearance could not save the film from drowning.

Though Shah Rukh Khan had intentionally ended RA.ONE with an open end climax so that he could easily launch its sequel but regrettably the disastrous debacle of the film at the box-office clipped all his wings to produce a sequel.

However now the buzz is that Shah Rukh Khan has expressed his desire to make the sequel of RA.ONE and has even decided to name it G.ONE!

According a report in a daily national newspaper Shah Rukh Khan has reportedly quoted, “Today, technology has changed. In the last 5 years, I have learnt a lot about technology myself. So we are trying to make it bigger and better. RA.ONE sequel is definitely happening. We will call it G.ONE this time.”

It seems Shah Rukh Khan is feeling perturbed ever since Rajinikanth’s sequel of ROBOT (ENTHIRAN) has hit headline. Also SRK must be amazed at the enormous publicity ROBOT - 2 (ENTHIRAN-2) is generating hence to bank on the same publicity he has decided to make the sequel of RA.ONE little realizing he is competing with the lethal combination of the great actor Rajinikanth and the genius filmmaker Shanker.

It may be noted the duo are known for minting gold whenever they joined hands. Remember – the blockbusters, SIVAJI (THE BOSS) and ENTHIRAN (ROBOT).

After box-office BAJIRAO MASTANI dominates DILWALE at Award Nite; wins 9 awards at Renault Sony Guild Awards 2015

With Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s BAJIRAO MASTANI overpowering Shah Rukh Khan’s DILWALE in every department of filmmaking from strong content to superlative performances; BAJIRAO MASTANI has began dominating DILWALE, not only the box office but even the film award nites.

A picture of this was observed on December 22 in Mumbai where at the Renault Sony Guild Awards 2015 BAJIRAO MASTANI swept maximum number of awards ranging from Best Actor - Ranveer Singh to Best Director - Sanjay Leela Bhansali. In addition, in the popular category Tanvi Azmi, who played the widow and mother of Ranveer Singh in the film, also won the well deserved Best Actress in Supporting role.

Besides these three popular awards BAJIRAO MASTANI won six technical awards. They include Best Cinematography, Best Art Direction, Best Sound Design, Best Costume Design, Best Dialogue, Best Choreography.

Ever since the movie has been release both Sanjay Leela Bhansali and Ranveer Singh are being praised for their commanding performances.

In fact Ranveer Singh is on sky nine as his performance of the Maratha Peshwa Bajirao has taken the nation by storm. He has literally lived the character to perfection. His dialogue delivery with the pinch of Marathi accent is commendable. The rawness during the battle scenes, the sensuality during intense love scenes and his emotions during the climax are all bewitching, placing him as an actor par excellence.

Bowled over his masterpiece performance, star of millennium Amitabh Bachchan, sent a hand-written compliment saluting the actor. In addition even director-producer Aditya Chopra was at loss of words after watching BAJIRAO MASTANI.

BAJIRAO MASTANI emerges Winner! SRK blames ‘Intolerance Remark’ behind DILWALE failure!!

Slow and steady wins the race goes a popular English axiom. It seems the same axiom applies in race between Shah Rukh Khan’s masala entertainer, DILWALE versus Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s historical love story BAJIRAO MASTANI.

DILWALE which took off to an excellent start on day one i.e. Friday by collecting Rs 21 Crore and continued its stronghold till Sunday with Rs 24 Crore finally lost its sheen on day four i.e. Monday by dropping to a mere Rs 10.09 Crore!

In contrast the dark horse Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s BAJIRAO MASTANI, which began on a slow start on Friday with Rs 12.80 Crore, soon gained momentum with word of mouth publicity on day two i.e. Saturday and collected Rs 15.52 Crore. On Sunday it eventually registered an even better show with Rs 18.45 Crore.

What is surprising is that on Monday, which is regarded as the ‘Acid Test’ day for any movie (because it is a working day) DILWALE nosedived to over 50 per cent, in contrast BAJIRAO MASTANI’s witnessed an upward raise of over 10 – 15 per cent. Thus while DILWALE collected Rs 10.09 crore on Monday; BAJIRAO MASTANI went ahead and fetched Rs. 10.25 cr.

Interestingly peeved at the drop in collection of his film DILWALE at the box office Mr. Shah Rukh Khan has alleged that the film has seen a decline as many of his fans have been hurt by his growing intolerance remark.

But Mr. Khan, if I am not mistaken, before the release of the film you had apologised for your comment on ABP News’ Special Show Press Conference, (though it was obviously a political stunt to promote your film!)

Now that your film has flopped why play blame- game? Why don’t you simply accept that your movie is poor on content and quality in comparison to Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s magnificent epic BAJIRAO MASTANI?

Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s salute to Sahir Ludhianvi; His next film a biopic on the legendary poet!

Despite stiff competition from Shah Rukh Khan’s DILWALE, Kudos to Sanjay Leela Bhansali for making a marvelous film BAJIRAO MASTANI. Though in terms of money Bhansali’s movie is little behind but in terms of quality it is way ahead!

After the success of the film Sanjay Leela Bhansali aspires to make another historical movie, though not a period film. The movie is based on the legendary Urdu poet and film lyricist Sahir Ludhianvi and his unsuccessful love affair with his heartthrob Amrita Pritam.

Briefing media Bhansali said, “I was left astounded on reading the script and have decided to produce the film. Sahir’s life, poetry and his love story is captivating and deserves to be told.“

He added, “In addition the film is my salute to Sahir sahab and my way of giving back to the cinema for his immense contribution.”

True Sahir’s contribution to Indian cinema is immense. He is perhaps the only poet in Indian cinema who even wrote hot romantic numbers that were never cheap but conveyed the seduction to the hilt. Remember the hit song from the movie IZZAT … Jaagi jaagi badan mein jwala saiyya tune kya kar daala….

He also dared to challenge the national song Sare Jeha Se Acha Hindustan Hamara… penned by Iqbal.

Peeved at the poverty, illiteracy and boundless inflation in the country after independence Sahir mocked at the lines of Sare Jeha Se Acha Hindustan Hamara…by countering the claim of Iqbal in his song from the film PHIR SUBHA HOGI….

Chin o arab hamara, hindustan hamara;

Rahane ko ghar nahi hai, sara jahaan hamara

(We ourselves do not have a house to live and we make pompous claim the entire world is our place!!!)

The song rips apart the bitter truth of India and exposes the cry of the oppressed and suffering that Indian underwent through the 50’s

Incidentally almost 70 years later there is hardly any difference as India, even today, struggle to fight the same evils of poverty, illiteracy and boundless inflation.

Hence a biopic on Sahir would really be great and perhaps encourage the present crop of lyrists to learn good poetry!

After Dhanush, Kollywood superstar Suriya produces children film ‘PASANGA 2'

It seems the future of Children Films in India is slowly but gradually getting a boost. After Bollywood superstars Aamir Khan made TAARE ZAMEEN PER and Salman Khan produced CHILLAR PARTY, the South film industry is also encouraged.

South Super Dhanush experimented with Tamil film KAAKA MUTTAI and went on to win National Award for Best Children film. And now another South superstar Suriya has produced a children film ‘PASANGA 2'.

The film is directed by Pandiraj, who is being termed as a Children film specialist ever since his first children film PASANGA earned him a National Award and his third film MARINA, another children film, minted money at box office.

Speaking about the film Suriya said, “The film talks about the sensitive issue of how kids in city due to nuclear family and working parents are neglected at home and lose the sheen of childhood.”

He adds, “In fact director Pandiraj in his earlier film PASANGA had taken the issue of kids in rural India and his recent film PASANGA 2 is an extension of the same script as it now shifts to the problems faced by kids in urban India.”

Just as Aamir Khan’s film TAARE ZAMEEN PER took the important issue of Dyslexia syndrome among children in which children have reading disorder and learning disability likewise Suriya’s film deals with another very vital syndrome called Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD).

Suriya informs, “ADD is a frequent disorder among city children where kids do not listen to teachers, don’t follow instructions, disturb class and are labeled by teachers as troublemakers but the fact is these children are victims of loneliness and solitude as they do not get attention at home due working parents. The film is really worth pondering.”

One hopes other superstars from both from Bollywood and South Indian film industry start doing at least one children film so that Children films gets a major boost!

Not even a fortnight over after Salman Khan hit and run case verdict; country witnesses another celebrity son involved in rash driving!

The Bombay High Court judgment in favor of Salman Khan in the hit and run case 2002 may have been welcomed by his fans and the film fraternity but the media and right thinking people had expressed their discontentment.

It was even predicted that the judgment will send a wrong signal and may encourage rash driving in the country; particularly the fear about the punishment in the rash driving cases will cease among the rich and famous, who would now go wild on the road!

As expected, not even a fortnight after the judgment was over; another case of a celebrity son involved in rash driving has been reported by the Goa Police.

The accused Johna Delalaye Fernandes is son of famous Bollywood pop star Remo Fernandes, who allegedly knocked down a minor girl, Allenne D'Souza, who was a pilgrim on foot to St Francis Xavier Church in a group of devotees.

Though the Goa Police have arrested Johna under Sections 279 (Rash driving or riding on a public way), 338 (Causing grievous hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others) of IPC but what is astonishing is that after the accident instead of sympathizing with the victim, singer Remo Fernandes has been reported of threatening her using offensive language to keep her silent and prevent her from disclosing the facts of the accident.

To add salt to injury when the Goa Police issued summons to Mr. Remo Fernandes to be present before the cops on charges of threatening the little girl he declined to obey the orders stating he is aboard and his lawyer would do the needful!

Such pompous attitude of Remo Fernandes only underlines the fact that had Salman Khan been pronounced a stringent punishment in the rash driving case than other celebrities would have learnt a lesson that if Salman Khan could be punished than probably the sword may also fall on them.

DILWALE disappoints SRK fans! Is Shah Rukh Khan losing his sheen as a superstar?

It seems Shah Rukh Khan is losing his sheen as a superstar and is on the way downwards like the previous superstars Amitabh Bachchan, Rajesh Khanna and Dilip Kumar because after CHENNAI EXPRESS (2013) and HAPPY NEW YEAR (2014) once again Shah Rukh Khan has let down his fans with his just released film DILWALE!

The movie is minting money at the box office and has registered over Rs 50 crore business in just 2 two days. So one may wonder - What is the reason for his downfall?

Well the business generated is out of curiosity. Being a Shah Rukh Khan film his fans have thronged cinema halls but after watching the film they are disappointed and dejected.

Most of his fans after watching the movie are criticizing Shah Rukh Khan for enacting in a film that is awfully stupid and utterly boring. In fact in a live chat session on Twitter Shah Rukh was condemned by his fans for doing a mindless film. Few fans even warned him that if he continues to do such silly films than he may even lose out his fans and perhaps be thrown off the throne of stardom!

But the question is why Shah Rukh Khan does such stupid films? Well when a fan asked him such a question he said, “As an actor I have to do all genre of films.”

What Shah Rukh Khan says is right because as a superstar he is compelled to do films of big banners that are laced with every form of masala that entertains everyone and in doing so, usually the quality of a film is hampered and it falls flat on its face.

When Amitabh Bachchan was the superstar big budget filmmakers like Manmohan Desai (TOOFAN), Prakash Mehra (JAADUGAR ), Ramesh Sippy (AKAYLA) etc. followed the same practice and it brought doom to his stardom.

Similarly past superstar like Rajesh Khanna and Dilip Kumar too had to follow the diktats of commercial filmmakers and had to pay the bitter price for it.

Hope Shah Rukh Khan learns a lesson and avoids doing such nonsensical film to retain his stardom!

Is South Indian Cinema obsessed with Bollywood stars as villains?

There was a time when Bollywood was obsessed with South Indian actresses. From the 50’s to the 80’s several actresses from South India like Vyjayanthimala, Hema Malini, Rekha, Sridevi, Jaya Prada etc. dominated Bollywood.

However now it seems South Indian film industry has been obsessed by Bollywood actors to play the villain. Recently Khiladi Kumar aka Akshay Kumar has been signed opposite Rajinikanth to play the main villain in the sequel to ENDHIRAN 2 and now the news is that another Bollywood top star Vivek Oberoi has been signed to play the antagonist opposite Chiranjeevi in the remake of Tamil hit KATHTHI

It is not that South Indian Cinema is importing Bollywood villains for the first time the only difference is that for the first time South Indian cinema has dared to sign top Bollywood stars and vouched out whopping amount.

If insiders are to be believed filmmaker Shanker has signed Akshay Kumar for an enormous amount of Rs 25 crore!!! Likewise Vivek Oberoi, who played the menacing villain in Hrithik Roshan’s hit film KRRISH 3 is likely to demand a massive amount.

A look down history reveals that it was South Indian movie maverick Mani Ratnam, who started the trend of importing Bollywood villains in South cinema. He firmly believed that the film’s anatomist must have multiple dimensions hence for the first time he hired Bollywood’s top notch villain Amrish Puri for his post-modern Mahabharata, DALAPATHY (1991)and later signed Pankaj Kapur for ROJA (1993).

What followed next was a crop of Bollywood villains invading South cinema like Mukesh Rishi, Pradeep Rawat, Sonu Sood, Rahul Dev etc minting money.

Following is the list of Top 10 Bollwood actors as villains in South Indian Cinema

Manoj Bajpayee in Telugu film VEDAM.
Ashish Vidyarthi: POKIRI (Telugu)
Pradeep Rawat: GHAJINI (Tamil)
Mukesh Rishi: INDRA (Telugu)
Mukesh Tiwari: KANTHASWAMY (Tamil)
Sayaji Shinde: DHOOL (Tamil,Telugu,Kannada)
Atul Kulkarni: RUN (Tamil)
Sonu Sood: ATHADU (Telugu)
Murali Sharma: ATITHI (Telugu)
Salim Ghouse: THAZHVARAM (Malayalam)

Akshay Kumar made his debut in South Indian Cinema 20 years ago! ENDHIRAN 2 is NOT his first South Indian Film!!

Shocked!!

Well it is definitely worth earth shattering because while most believe that filmmaker Shanker’s  ENDHIRAN 2 is Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar’s first South Indian film than let me make it clear that ENDHIRAN 2 is NOT the debut film of Akshay Kumar in South Indian cinema!

So you may wonder - Which is Akshay Kumar’s First South Indian film that he acted in? Any guesses??

Well it was two decades back when Akshay Kumar made his debut in South Indian cinema opposite South Indian Super Star Dr. Vishnuvardhan in the Kannada film titled VISHNU VIJAYA (1993) that was a big blockbuster at the box-office.

In fact the film was made simultaneously in Hindi too as ASHAANT (1993). It was directed by Keshu Ramsay. However the Hindi version was a major debacle. Nevertheless Akshay Kumar had a great time working opposite Dr. Vishnuvardhan and learned a lot in his company.

When the legendary actor Dr. Vishnuvardhan expired in 2009 at the age 59, Akshay Kumar was deeply sad.

Paying tribute to the great star, whom his fans fondly called "Sahasa Simha" (a valour lion), Akshay Kumar candidly confessed, “I remember working opposite South Super Star Dr.Vishnuvardhan. We did a Hindi and a Kannada version of Ashaant. The Kannada version was a super hit. The Hindi version was a flop. During the making of the movie I realised Vishnuji’s potential as an actor. He was a much bigger star than I could ever be."

BAJIRAO MASTANI losses the first round of the battle to DILWALE!

Eight years ago in 2007 celebrated filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali lost battle to Superstar Shah Rukh Khan when his much awaited film SAAWARIYA, which introducing Ranbir Kapoor and Sonam Kapoor and also had the superstar Salman Khan, in a pivotal role failed miserable opposite Shah Rukh Khan STARRER OM SHANTI OM!

Cut to 2015; Once again the two distinguished film celebrities are at loggerheads with Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s historic drama BAJIRAO MASTANI clashing on the same day i.e December 18 with Shah Rukh Khan’s film romantic film DILWALE!

Call it destiny or sheer ‘Charisma’ of Badshah Khan aka Shah Rukh Khan, even as both the film releases today Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s BAJIRAO MASTANI has already lost the first round of battle to Shah Rukh Khan’s DILWALE! Confused? Since the box office result are to yet pour in?

Well, soon the box office reports will also reveal the true picture but let’s understand how BAJIRAO MASTANI has lost in the first round of battle to DILWALE!

According to reports Eros International, the film distribution company which released Salman Khan’s mega hit film BAJRANGI BHAIJAAN this Eid was trying to bully Single Screen theatres owners by pressurizing them to only showcase his film BAJIRAO MASTANI.

However the Single Screen theatres owners, who are aware that the audience would first rush to all cinema halls screening their favorite superstar Shah Rukh Khan were annoyed at the monopoly of Eros International hence they approached the Bombay Sessions Court on Thursday. Interestingly the Sessions Court gave judgment in favor of the Single Screen theatres owners and said that the theatre owners are free to screen any movie that they wish to. Thus bringing smile on the faces of Single Screen theatres owners and Shah Rukh Khan as now his film DILWALE will rule not just in Multiplexes but at Single Screen theatres.

It may be noted that in comparison to Multiplexes India has several times more Single Screen theatres. Besides Rohit Shetty’s movies are usually targeted at mass audience that throngs Single Screen theatres.

Hence it is beyond doubt that Shah Rukh Khan’s DILWALE will have a cakewalk, particularly on day one and if the film lives up to the taste of the audience than it will be a runway hit.

In contrast Sanjay Leela Bhansali BAJIRAO MASTANI will have a slow start but may gradually intensify if the content is interesting!
