September 5, marks Teachers Day, which the government has renamed as Guru Utsav and is celebrating with fervor with our honorable Prime Minster Narendra Modi addressing the nation. Raaga.Com too celebrates the day and takes a look at Top 5 Best Teachers of Bollywood

Abhi Bhattacharya: The younger generation may have forgotten this actor but he played the upright teacher in Nitin Bose directed movie JAGRITI (1954). The movie beautifully brought home the message that children can be taught better with love than corporal punishment. The songs of this movie are even hit today.

Vinod Khanna: The young and handsome Vinod Khanna in the movie IMTIHAN (1974) acted as professor who quits his father’s lucrative business to serve education. Through love and compassion he reforms the rowdy students of the college Adarsh Mahavidyalya. The movie was inspired by Hollywood movie TO SIR, WITH LOVE ( 1967) and was huge hit.

Jeetendra: Eminent director Gulzar turned Jumping Jack Jeetendra in to a simple and sober teacher in his movie PARICHAY (1972). As a teacher, Jeetendra inculcates virtues and values in the disobedient five grandchildren of Rai Sahab (Pran) and successfully develops love between grandfather and grandchildren. The movie established Gulzar as a director par excellence.

Amitabh Bachchan: Director Prakash Jha in his film AARAKSHAN casted Amitabh Bachchan as an idealistic teacher who resigns as a principal due to the controversial policy of caste based reservations in Indian government jobs and educational institutions. Later he privately teaches underprivileged students. The movie was widely appreciated for portraying a sensitive issue.

Aamir Khan: As a drawing teacher in TAARE ZAMEEN PAR, Aamir Khan, brings out the creative talent of an eight-year-old Ishaan (Darsheel Safary), who is discarded as a duffer by his teachers and explores a new world of triumph for the young child.

Aamir Khan, who also produced and directed the movie beautifully, brought home the bitter truth about the learning disorder called dyslexic. The film gave many parents the courage to accept the reality of dyslexic and gave them the message to develop other hidden talents in such children.

‘MUTTHAM’ - A Symbol Of Love

A kiss is something we give our dear ones. Be it a kid, someone our age to someone very old, a lover – any relationship for that matter, a ‘kiss’ stands as a symbol of love. Today we take a look at Tamil songs that have the word ‘Muttham’ in them. The usage in each of the song maybe different but ofcourse it does mean – the gentle kiss.

In the movie 12 B, the song ‘Muttham muttham mutthama ,moondraam ulaga yudhayama’ falls under a situation where there is a romantic encounter between the hero and the heroine and thus they sing for each other. The catchy rhythm and the creative sets caught the attention of many when this song was released.

Who said only humans can feel the purity of love through a kiss? Even other living creatures can! And the song ‘Chittu kuruvi muttham kuduka’ from the movie Pudhiya Paravai. The heroine enjoys the blissful situation of being one with nature.

A wonderful, lilting duet featuring Shobana and Kamal Haasan is Mutham PodaadheEnnakul oruvan. A classy duet sung by S.P.B and Janaki, this is a sure-shot romantic hit amongst the audience.

The song ‘Nee muttham ondru kuduthaal’ from Pokiri is a wonderful duet, perfectly suiting the current generation, in terms of lyrics and the tune in which the song has been set in. The locations also attribute well with the situation. The song ‘Naan muttham thinbaval’ from Guru too is a new-age song one could say considering placement of notes and the magnificient usage of the instruments, a typical A.R.Rahman piece with a lot of innovation. The song takes upon a lot of westernism in the way it has been structured.

From the movie Kannathil muttham ital, the song ‘Oru Deivam thandha’ the chorus runs as ‘Kannathil muttham ital’. One should admire the nature of love portrayed here – between the father and the daughter and between the mother and the daughter , seen in two variations , as two different songs.

GRAPHICS ALL THE WAY!

If there is something new incorporated in the song, it ofcourse makes a history. Such is the case of the usage of ‘graphics’ in the Tamil Cinema. There is something additional always added just to give that touch to the song and bingo – it creates the appeal with the audience!

For starters, we all saw the song ‘Ennavale adi ennavele’ where we see the actor and actress emerging out a graphical image which later turns into a real figure. This ofcourse a technology in that era attracted a lot of attention. Following this when the movie Indian released, we knew that there was something amazing in line coming up with Ulaganayagan doing the lead. Well ‘Akadanunanga’ did create the vibes, thanks to the wonderfully done graphic stints. Kamal adopted a lot of graphics yet again for his songs in aalavandhan.

When there is a Shankar film, everyone knows there is a magic coming up too and no one was disappointed with the ‘boomboom shake’ from the movie boys which even had tiny objects like cans flying around the actors. A song shot par excellence, accolades came its way. Same is the case with the movie ‘Mudhalvan’ where we see snakes in the song ‘Mudhalvane’ which was done in a manner to portray sarcasm even in the song. Brilliantly executed – we must say. We saw the graphc of a wood pecker bird in the song ‘Marankothiye’ from the movie ‘New’ which turned out to be the highlight of that song.

The list does not end there. With mayakkam enna movie’s release, everybody loved the song ‘Oda oda oda onnum puriyale’ which was wonderfully done ofcourse, in a hilarious manner too – thoroughly entertaining. With ‘oodha colour ribbon’ flying around in a graphical manner, the song too has created wonderful vibes! Well all we can say is that there is always scope for graphics!
