The obsession of ‘Invisible Superman’ in Bollywood!

Ever since Vikram Bhatt announced the making of his new film Mr. X starring Emraan Hashmi and Amyra Dastur there have been all sorts of rumors about the movie being inspired by Shekhar Kapur's MR. INDIA or plagiarized from Hollywood hit 'HOLLOW MAN'. However Mahesh Bhatt, who has produced the film, denies all allegations.

In a candid interview Bhatt said, “Few people know that before Shekhar Kapur's made MR. INDIA, Vijay Bhatt, grandfather of Vikram Bhatt brought a revolution in Indian cinema by making Bollywood’s first movie with the concept of the invisible superhero called Mr. X (1937) inspired from Hollywood film Invisible man (1933).”

He added, “Later in 1957 it was my father Nanabhai Bhatt made another movie called Mr. X having same concept starring Ashok Kumar and Nalini Jaywant and Pran in the lead.”

Recalling his early days Bhatt said, "I have the memory of going to the sets with my father during the shooting. As a child when I saw my father's film, I used to fantasize about turning invisible.”

In fact Bollywood’s obsession with invisible superhero is not restricted with Mr. X (1957) or Mr. India (1987). In fact there are few more movies that adopted the same idea of invisible superhero.

If readers could remember the super hit song ‘Mere Mehboob Qayamat Hogi… sung by Kishore Kumar. This song was from the movie Mr. X IN BOMBAY (1964) starring Kishore Kumar, Kum Kum and Madan Puri.

Another movie called ELAAN was released in 1971 that had Vinod Khanna, Rekha and Madan Puri. The movie was directed by K. Ramanlal.

However among all the movies made on this subject only Shekhar Kapur's MR. INDIA was hit, while the rest bit the dust.

The New ‘Khan’ with a ‘Difference’!

Pakistani actor Fawad Khan is the new Khan in Bollywood who is ruling roost ever since his super hit Bollywood film KHOOBSURAT set the box office register ringing. Any guesses what’s the difference between the Bollywood’s famous trio of Khan and Faward Khan, besides being not an Indian citizen?

Well unlike the Bollywood Khans, who are not shying romancing heroine’s half their age; young Fawad Khan has turned down doing an intense intimate scene with current sex bomb Alia Bhatt in Karan Johar’s upcoming film KAPOOR AND SONS.

According to reports Fawad Khan, who is reserved and avoids getting intimate with his heroines or indulging in physical scenes on screen has reportedly requested film director Shakun Batra to tone down the intensity of the romantic shoot so that he feels comfortable and he is not gripped in any controversy in his home country.

In fact be it Pakistani Cinema, Bollywood or TV, Fawad Khan has restricted himself to the so called Lakshman Rekha, which he has decided not cross by tempting to do scenes that he cannot watch along with his family.

Fawad Khan who rose to fame in India with his TV shows, HUMSAFAR and ZINDAGI GULZAR HAI has stuck to his principles even in these two TV serials, which are romantic family dramas but there's no kissing or intimacy involved. The sex is implied. Though both his leading ladies get pregnant but there is no intimate scene picturised as was depicted in the films of yesteryear where the sex was implied either through tow birds brushing their beaks or two flowers fondling each others.

Isn’t it strange! Bollywood which is known for its casting couch tradition and super stars demanding to incorporate steamy sex scenes to exploit heroines; here comes an actor, who has reservations doing such scenes!

Kudos Mr. Fawad Khan, Keep up the tradition!
