Eminent playback singer K J Yesudas known for his earthy nature and his super hit songs, Bhajan and classical numbers both in Bollywood and South Indian cinema, is in a soup over his remark over women wearing jeans. Aggravated at his remark Mahila Congress State President Bindu Krishna took out a morcha and termed him anti –women.

Yesudas, who inaugurated the cleanliness drive under Swachh Bharat Campaign at Swathi Tirunal Music College in Thiruvananthapuram, on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti, said that the beauty of women lies in her modesty and women should not wear jeans as it reveals their vital body parts. “Our Indian culture values simplicity and amiability as the greatest assets of women. However when women put on jeans, men are tempted to look beyond that (jeans). Thus women should not trouble others by wearing jeans,” the veteran singer added.

Kerala-born singer, who had been conferred with the honours like Padma Sri and Padma Vibhushan further added, “Jeans is the dress of men and women should not try to become like men.”

Attacking the legendary singer for his chauvinistic remark, Mahila Congress State President Bindu Krishna, lambasted, “Yesudas’ remark is anti –women. This is a totally unacceptable view. This could be seen only as a transgression on the freedom of women."

She added, “Yesudas is a great singer and all Indians are proud of his contribution to music. It is unfortunate that this sort of an anti-woman comment has come from him.” She further said, “Did Yesudas, who spends many days in America, fails to know about the changes in Kerala society. His retrogressive comments were not fitting for a civilized society.”

According to an eyewitness soon after the screening was over around 12 am in the night, Hrithik Roshan came out of the multiplex and moved towards his car parked in the parking section at PVR Juhu, multiplex. As Hrithik was above to unlock his car and enter when suddenly, out of the blue, a young man dressed in the festive Navratri attire leaped over Hrithik Roshan from behind taking the star by surprise. The fan hugged Hrithik Roshan from behind so passionately that even Hrithik’s bodyguard Mayur was thrown aside and left dumbfounded!

Will ‘HAIDER’ Prove A ‘ZANJEER’ For Shahid Kapoor?

Eminent filmmaker Vishal Bhardwaj’s raise in Bollywood is commendable. From directing TV serial to composing music to making hard hitting commercial and critical movies like MAQBOOL, OMKARA, MAKDEE, KAMINEY is no mean achievement.

The filmmaker is getting rave reviews for his forthcoming movie HAIDER by the film fraternity. However the highlight of the movie besides Vishal Bhardwaj’s brilliant direction is actor Shahid Kapoor’s outstanding performance.

Renowned filmmakers like Deepa Mehta, Mira Nair and Hansal Mehta among others have hailed Vishal Bhardwaj's 'HAIDER' as a must watch.

Film maker Mira Nair, who made SALAAM BOMBAY! (1988),MONSOON WEDDING (2001), THE NAMESAKE (2006) and has to her credits National Film Award and various international film festivals awards including a nominee at the Academy Awards, Golden Globes has been bowled over my Vishal Bhardwaj’s movie HAIDER. Praising the movie Nair tweeted, “"Brilliant, mesmerizing Tabu, irrfan, Kashmir's agony and beauty, all in the masterful hands of Vishal Bhardwaj. HAIDER is a must see!"

Likewise Deepa Mehta, yet another internationally renowned Indian film maker who made such beautiful movies like FIRE (1996), EARTH (1998), MIDNIGHT'S CHILDREN (2012) too was awestruck by the power packed HAIDER. She tweeted, “HAIDER is a beautiful film with fabulous performances. Politically relevant, it's heartbreakingly satisfying. Bravo!"

Upcoming director Hansal Mehta, who became an icon after his film 'CITY LIGHTS' in his tweet, applauded the movie as ‘Stunning’. He tweeted, "Vishal 'Bhardwaj is a brilliant story teller. He redefines Hamlet and how good is Haider and what a performance by Shahid Kapoor. Tabu is stunning so is the entire ensemble. Pitch perfect performances."

Besides admiring Vishal Bhardwaj, critics and film industry are going gaga over Shahid Kapoor for delivering his career’s best performance. Actor Ali Zafar congratulating Shahid Kapoor on his performance, said, " One rarely gets to see such a strong film with such strong performances. Shahid Kapoor your best till date. Bravo brother."

Just as the movie is drawing rave reviews, if the movie can ignite fire at the box office than movie may prove a gold mine for actor Shahid Kapoor and perhaps write a golden chapter in his life as ZANJEER did for Amitabh Bachchan!

Actors Who Lived Mahatma Gandhi On Screen

De di hame aazadi bina khadag bina dhal

Sabarmati ke sant tune kar diya kamala…..

This soulful song from the film JAGRITI (1954), penned my Rashtriya Kavi, Pradeep beautifully pays tribute to the Father of Nation, Mahatma Gandhi. October 2, marks the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, the apostle of peace. On this occasion; Raaga.Com pays our humble homage to Mahatma Gandhi and takes a look at Top 5 actors who played Mahatma Gandhi on screen.

Ben Kingsley (GANDHI) : Though it’s tragic but it’s true that no Indian actor has been able to portray, the caricature of Mahatma Gandhi, as genuine as Ben Kingsley, in Richard Attenborough’s film, GANDHI (1982). In fact readers may be surprised to know that the first choice for this role was Naseeruddin Shah but Shah in his interview himself confessed that after his screen test, when he saw Ben Kingsley as dressed as Gandhi, he could not believe his eyes as Ben Kingsely was so perfect in the role.

Ben Kingsley went on to win an Oscar for the film and his performance in GANDHI is considered to be the best till date.

Naseeruddin Shah (HEY RAM): Though Naseeruddin Shah lost his chance of playing Mahatma in Richard Attenborough’s film, GANDHI but he got the opportunity to play Gandhi in Kamal Hassan’s HEY RAM. According to me after Ben Kingsley the Naseeruddin Shah holds the second position to potray Gandhi to perfection. The highlight of Naseeruddin Shah excelling in the character is that Shah splendidly added the Gujarati accent and body language superbly thus making the character immortal.

Dilip Prabhavalkar (LAGEY RAHO MUNNABHAI): Till LAGEY RAHO MUNNABHAI was released few knew who played the role of Mahatma Gandhi in the film. The actor to excellently portray Gandhi was renowned Marathi actor Dilip Prabhavalkar, who is regarded as versatile stage and cinema actor in Maharashtra. This was the first film which showed Gandhi in a contemporary setting and humorous brought home Gandhiji’s teachings and principals to the modern day world.

Dilip Prabhavalkar, was so much lauded by the film buffs that he was offered to repeat the role of Gandhi in the Telugu language remake LAGEY RAHO MUNNABHAI called SHANKAR DADA ZINDABAD.

Darshan Zariwala (GANDHI MY FATHER): Stage actor Darshan Zariwala played Bapu in Anil Kapoor produced Gandhi My Father. The film had the most unique take on Gandhiji as it focused on his personal life more than the political one and showed how despite being the ‘Father of nation’, Gandhiji couldn’t be a good father to his son Harilal Gandhi.

Darshan Zariwala won the Best Supporting Actor National Award.

Annu Kapoor (Sardar): Annu Kapoor became a famous figure on Indian television through the musical game show Antakshari. But before his television stints he was a part of several small and sensible Hindi films. He played the role of Gandhi in Ketan Mehta’s biopic on Vallabhai Patel titled SARDAR.
