Shah Rukh Khan’ RAEES Heroine Mahira Khan’s Pak Movie banned screening by MNS in Maharashtra

Raj Thackeray-led Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) has banned the screening of Shah Rukh Khan’s RAEES heroine Mahira Khan’s Pakistani Movie BIN ROYE in Maharashtra reasoning Pakistan backing terrorism in India.

According to reports Ameya Khopkar, President of the Maharashtra Navnirman Chitrapat Karmachari Sena, the film wing of the MNS has raised eyebrows about the release of the Pakistani film which was supposed to be released in India along with Salman Khan’s BAJRANGI BHAIJAAN on the auspicious Eid festival.

Cleared by Indian censor board for release in India, BIN ROYE is a romantic drama directed by Momina Duraid and is being released in India under the banner of B4U films. While the film will release in other parts of India, it is only Maharashtra state that has banned the movie.

Interestingly Salman Khan’s BAJRANGI BHAIJAAN on the other hand will be released in Pakistan this Eid on July 18.

Shocked by the development Duraid Qureshi, CEO of Hum Network and husband of the film's producer Momina Qureshi expressed sorrow. He said, “I fail to understand why political groups create obstacles in the cultural exchange between the two countries. Cinema and art do not have religious barriers; in fact they help build stronger ties.”

He added, “I feel happy watching Rahat Fateh Ali Khan singing in India, Salman Khan’s BAJRANGI BHAIJAAN releasing in Pakistan and Shah Rukh Khan working with our actress Mahira Khan. But when such fundamentalist divide us it is agonizing.”

Reacting sharply to the ban by the MNS, a leading producer, distributor and exhibitor in Pakistan, Nadeem Mandviwala, taunted, “ It is a pity that all the efforts of allowing Indian films to be released in Pakistan legitimately is now being jeopardised by Indian states themselves.”

He observed, “The state of Maharashtra has revoked the debate which lasted for more than 40 years, from 1965 to 2006. Such development is disastrous to both the film industries in India and Pakistan.”
