Alok Nath - ‘Sanskari Babuji’ displays his true colors!

After the exit of famous character actors like Om Prakash and Ashok Kumar, TV actor Alok Nath took over their role of righteous father in Bollywood with the success of Salman Khan starrer MAINE PYAR KIYA.

Further playing a series of 'babujis,' characters on TV serials like RISHTE-NAATE, PIYA KA GHAR, GHAR EK SAPNAA, YAHAN MAIN GHAR GHAR KHELI, DO DIL BANDHE EK DORI SE, TU MERE AGAL BAGAL HAI etc. cemented his image as an ‘ideal sanskari Babuji’

However recently his sanskars (virtues) went for a toss when in a fit of fury, he condemned a lady with an expletive tweet on tweeter that read –“Ra_Bies @kavita_krishnan jail the bitch!”

It may be noted dear Babuji (Alok Nath) lost his temper because a Marxist feminist and the secretary of the All India Progressive Women's Association, Kavita Krishnan, instead of supporting the Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s latest drive ‘Selfie With Daughter’ that called all Indians fathers to share their photos with their daughters, she criticized Modi for maintaining his silence on grave corruption charges against two leading women ministers in BJP, Sushma Swaraj and Vasundhara Raje.

Lambasting the PM’s campaign Kavita took dig and tweeted, “Careful before sharing #Selfie With Daughter with #Lame Duck PM. He has a record of stalking daughters.”

Alok Nath, a staunch Modi supporter could not digest the dig and the evil devil inside him came out with a vengeance, caring a damn for disgracing ladies.

It may be noted Alok Nath may be playing the so-called ‘goody- goody’ sanskari Babuji’ on screen but off screen he is known to be violent and abusive.

A picture of his negative side was exposed in 2007, when Alok Nath made headlines after he was caught drunk and hurling abuses at young TV actor Shiraz Khan in Mumbai’s posh resultant at 1 a.m in the night.

Eyewitnesses reported that the Alok Nath was accompanied by his wife, yet he hurled cuss words at Shiraz and indulged in shameful brawl!

So the devil in him bouncing back is nothing surprising!!

Ghost of Salman Khan’s bodyguard continues to hound! Petition to probe his mysterious death!!

The BAJRANGI BHAIJAAN star Salman Khan has been once again dragged in the infamous 2002 hit and run case after getting some relief last month, when his five years sentence by session court was suspended!

According to recent reports on June 25, a Pune based activist, annoyed at the special treatment meted out to Salmank Khan and granted bail in a hush-hush in the hit and run case, has filed a petition in the Bombay High Court seeking to re-investigate the mysterious death of Salman Khan’s bodyguard Ravindra Patil.

It may be noted Salman Khan’s bodyguard Ravindra Patil, was trained as a commando to join the Special Operations Squad and was assigned as Bollywood actor Salman Khan’s bodyguard as part of his primary duty to guard the VIPs.

During the unfortunate accident Ravindra Patil was sitting next to Salman Khan and repeatedly warned Salman to stop reckless driving but he ignored and run over his land cruiser on the poor people sleeping on footpath, killing one and injuring others. In fact after the accident it was Ravindra Patil, who called the police and lodged a police complaint against the actor.

Hemant Patil, the Pune based activist claims Salman Khan cannot be pardoned in the hit and run case because he had used everything viz. money, power and muscle to pressurize the key eye witness Ravindra Patil to such an extent that he ruined Patil’s life after a loyal Patil declined to bow to Khan’s diktats.

“The plea challenging the conviction will come up before the High Court on July 1,” informed lawyer R N Kachave, who will appear on behalf of the petitioner.

Briefing media about the case R N Kachave said, “During the time of trail it has been observed that Salman Khan made several attempts to thwart Patil’s statement, but Patil, till his mysterious death, kept asserting that Salman Khan was behind the wheel and must be punished.”

He added, “When Patil declined to change his statement Salman Khan and his aid made his life hell so much so that he feared to appear in the court. Instead of providing Patil protection, the government and police hounded him and put him behind the bars," the petition alleged.

“Aggravated with constant torture by the police on behest of Salman Khan’s associate poor Pati escaped from jail and died under suspicious circumstances," the petitioner further alleged and demanded an inquiry into the death of Patil.

It’s true if Patil’s death is probed the truth of Salman Khan’s misdeed will be exposed! But how many more years will it take for the law to bring him to book???

U.K. newspaper declares Asha Bhosle as the ‘Greatest All Time Bollywood Playback Singer!

Since past several year ‘Melody Queen’ and legendary playback singer Lata Mangeshkar has been ruling Indian music industry as the ‘Numero Uno’ singer but surprisingly after many decades a U.K. based Eastern Eye newspaper has placed Asha Bhosle as the Top play backer singer in its latest countdown list of greatest 20 Bollywood all time playback singers.

According to the list released by the Eastern Eye newspaper Asha Bhosle is mentioned as the ‘Greatest’ Bollywood playback artist of all times, while the Bharat Ratna and the ‘Nightingale of Indian Music’ Lata Mangeshkar has been pushed down to second position. The versatile Mod Rafi and the genius Kishore Kumar occupy third and fourth position respectively.

Elated at the rare recognition Asha Bhosle said, “I thought being called the ‘Greatest’ was the prerogative of boxer Muhammad Ali. I thank Eastern Eye and everyone for tolerating me all these years.”

It may be noted that never ever Asha Bhosle has been bestowed such top honor, she has also been placed behind her elder sister and great playback singer Lata Mangeshkar. Thus declaration of Asha Bhosle as the Greatest all time Bollywood playback singer has come as a startle to many.

However Asjad Nazir, entertainment editor, Eastern Eye, who compiled the list feels there is nothing to get surprised as the list is based on multiple factors including number of songs, honours, international impact, versatility, fan base and popularity amongst fellow music industry professionals.”

He added, “Asha Bhosle deserved to top the list because apart from being the most prolific singer the world has ever known, Asha’s versatility has given her the widest body of work. Asha has taken Bollywood music across new frontiers and with Brimful Of Asha had a globally successful chart-topping song dedicated to her.”

The Other names who featured in the top 20 included Mukesh (5), current Bollywood music queen Shreya Ghoshal (7), Geeta Dutt (10), Sonu Nigam (14), Kumar Sanu (17) and Kavita Krishnamurthy (19).

While there has always been a debate who is greater singer Lata Mangeshkar or Asha Bhosle, Lata Mangeshkar herself confides, “Asha has always been a winner. I sometimes believe she is a far more versatile singer than me.”

How Shah Rukh Khan stole the ‘Superstar’ Crown from his competitors

Badshah Khan aka Shah Rukh Khan completes 23 glorious years in Bollywood this year and continues to don the elusive crown of ‘Superstar’ Of Bollywood.

On this occasion Raaga.Com finds out how Shah Rukh Khan took over the crown of ‘Superstar’ from Amitabh Bachchan, despite tough competition from his competitors who were eager to fetch the title like Anil Kapoor, Sanjay Dutt, Sunny Deol, Aamir Khan, Salman Khan and others. Read on…

When Amitabh Bachchan took retirement from Bollywood the big question was -‘Who after ‘Amitabh?’ The reasons are simple: Superstars are not born every day; they are once-in-blue moon phenomena.

In addition, they always have three inherent qualities: they have a hundred percent acting potential; they have a hundred percent star value. And above all, they are destiny’s paranormal prodigies! Only if a performer is aided and abetted by the all the three basic boons, then can he ever be a ‘Superstar’ and fortunately Shah Rukh Khan possessed all these qualities!

First, Shahrukh had incredible range in acting. Just go through the variety of roles he has played. From DEEWANA to CHENNAI EXPRESS his career graph is dotted with milestones of histrionic achievements, analogous to the all-time greats of the past.

Secondly, Shahrukh had a natural knack for selecting the right script. At least, the roles he played in BAAZIGAR, DARR, DILWALE DULHANIA LE JAYENGE, DEVDAS, MY NAME IS KHAN etc. bear it out amply. That’s how Dilip Kumar once used to be. He never hesitated to experiment even with a negative role, as he did in Mehboob’s ANDAZ. Again, Rajesh Khanna also never shield away from antihero roles. As a matter of fact, his career took a dramatic turn only after B.R. Chopra’s ITTEFAQ. So did Amitabh in DEEWAAR.

Shahrukh also shares another marked similarity with Dilip Kumar, Rajesh Khanna and Amitabh Bachchan. Like them, he too doesn’t mind, if the script wants, him to die in the end. And his death has surely given him a lingering life on screen.

Finally, just like the previous superstars, Shahrukh has never been afraid of competition from his co-stars. On the contrary, most of his co-stars are always in awe of him.

As if all this was not enough, Destiny also surely seems to be on Shahrukh’s side because, rarely an artiste from the small screen has made it big on the big screen. Shahrukh has been singularly lucky in this respect as well.

Karishma Kapoor - From Glamour Doll to actress par excellence!

When the beautiful and seductive Karishma Kapoor, granddaughter of Raj Kapoor, and daughter of actor Randhir Kapoor and actress Babita made her entry into Bollywood, cine buffs were left dazed by her dazzling beauty and in awe proclaimed ... Sexy Sexy Mujhe Log Bole….

Karishma Kapoor is credited as the first of the Kapoor clan lady who broke the old tradition of Kapoor clan that restricted female members of the family to act in films.

At the young age of 15 years she entered Bollywood and within three years at the age of 18 years she was the most sought after actress in Bollywood.

In the early 90’s she gave a string of back-to-back hits like JIGAR (1992), ANARI (1993), RAJA BABU (1994), COOLIE NO. 1 (1995), SAAJAN CHALE SASURAL (1996), JEET (1996) etc.

Though in the above film she was criticized to be just a glamour doll but in her future films she tight lipped her critics with some of her breathtaking superlative performances. In movies like RAJA HINDUSTANI opposite Aamir Khan and DIL TOH PAAGAL HAI opposite Shah Rukh Khan she proved that she was more than a glamour doll.

In fact Yash Chopra had initially approached Raveena Tandon, to play the bubbly character of Nisha in DIL TOH PAAGAL HAI but she turned it down as it was a side role and the main heroine of the film was Madhuri Dixit.

Later Yash Chopra approached many top notch actresses like Juhi Chawla, Kajol, Manisha Koirala and Shilpa Shetty but none dared to stand opposite the mighty Madhuri Dixit. Finally Karishma Kapoor took the challenge and emerged winner as went on to win the coveted National Film Award for Best Supporting Actress.

Later with films like BIWI NO.1, FIZA, ZUBEIDAA, SHAKTI: THE POWER, she was acknowledged as actress par excellence.

June 25 marks her birthday Raaga.Com wishes her many happy returns of the day.

Is Salman Khan’s Bhar do jholi meri….song from BAJRANGI BHAIJAAN a rip-off of Pakistan’s famous Sabri Brothers’s qawwali?

It seems the super duper hit spiritual qawwali Bhar Do Joli Meri Ya Muhammad….sung by the legendary Sabri Brothers of Pakistan is perhaps being repackaged into a contemporary qawwali in Salman Khan’s latest upcoming movie BAJRANGI BHAIJAAN.

Disclosing about the song Salman Khan tweeted, “Bhar do jholi meri…. is one of my favorite song from BAJRANGI BHAIJAAN and will soon be released at press conference on 25 June at Mumbai.”

Sung by eminent Pakistani music composer-singer Adnan Sami, who is best remembered for rendering hit songs like Kabhi to nazar milao…, Tera chehra …. and Lift kara de…, the song is composed by Pritam Chakraborty.

Though speculations are rife that Bhar do jholi meri…. is inspired from the Sabri Brothers legendary hit qawwali yet the film director Kabir Khan neither Salman Khan have disclosed much about the song.

Interestingly few may know that earlier the original qawwali Bhar Do Johli Meri Ya Muhammad… has been used in the 1975 little known film BIN BADAL BARSAAT.

In fact several hit qawwalis of Sabri brothers have featured in Bollywood films like Tajdar-e-Haram Ho Nigaah-e-Karam….SAHAARAY (1982) and Aftab-E-Risalat Madine Mein… SULTAN-E-HIND (1977).

Though details available about the song are not much revealed but according to sources the song is shot at a Dargah and features Adnan Sami singing the qawwali on screen, in the attire of a qawwal (spiritual singer)

Adnan Sami is making a tie-up with Salman Khan after a long time. Earlier the duo has worked together and created magic in films such as SALAAM-E-ISHQ, JAAN-E-MANN and LUCKY - NO TIME FOR LOVE.

A Video and Book to mark the 76 birth anniversary of musical genius R.D. Burman

In a unique tribute to music legend R.D. Burman, popularly known as Pancham, filmmaker Brahmanand S Siingh, who came to fame after his exceptional documentary Pancham Unmixed: Mujhe Chalte Jaana Hai (2009) is yet again paying his homage to the musical genius.

According to reports to commemorate the 76 birth anniversary of R.D. Burman, that falls on June 27, Brahmanand S Siingh will be releasing a video and a book titled ‘Diamonds and Rust’ as a mark of reverence to R.D. Burman.

Brahmanand S Siingh briefing media said, “The video will feature a collection of rare interviews on late Pancham and the coffee table book will contain untold anecdotes of R.D.Burman’s life.”

What is intriguing about Pancham’s life is that while he was alive he was looked down upon as a plagiarist in the 70’s with music critics alleging him of picking western tunes. Likewise in the 80’s and early 90’s when his films flopped, he was written off as a flop music director. Hence throughout his life he was a sad man aspiring to gain true recognition.

In an interview eminent singer Bharat Ratna, Lata Mangeshkar said, "For a composer as talented as Pancham to be almost jobless was a living death. Pancham was very unhappy. He would sometimes share his grief with me. I feel sad even now when I recall how cruel the industry was to Pancham just because some of his music didn't do well.”

In the late 80’s Pancham suffered a massive heart attack due to the trauma of being discarded by the film industry. He underwent heart surgery in London. However after recovering a valiant Pancham took a vow to make a comeback and prove his worth.

It’s reported after recovering from surgery, Pancham told his attending doctor, "Doctor, now that you've mended my dying heart, I will mend my dying career. You will hear my name echoing again for the melodies that I will create".

True to his words, Pancham came back with a vengeance in Vidhu Vinod Chopra’s 1942: A LOVE STORY.

He created the kind of music that not only made him won him awards but made him immortal as a musical genius par excellence.

Salman Khan yet again in legal tangle! Producer sues Rs 250 crore defamation case!

Salman Khan and controversy go hand in hand. The DABANGG star may have had some relief in the 2002 hit-and-run case and may be awaiting the outcome in the black-buck trial but even while the two cases finish; the actor is yet again in legal trouble. This time he has been dragged by film producer Vijay Galani, who made the major debacle VEER with him in the lead.

According to reports producer Vijay Galani has sued Salman Khan for Rs 250 crores as the honorable court has given verdict in his favor in the long legal battle against Salman Khan over monetary matter.

Briefing the media, Vijay Galani said, “When I made VEER, I had paid Salman Rs 10 crore as the signing amount, which was quite more than his actual amount (Rs 7-8 Crore). In addition I had also promised him another Rs 15 crore from the overflow, only if the film did well at the box office. Unfortunately, the film boomed at the box office and I was tight corners.”

He added, “Even as I was trying to seek solution to come out from my financial losses I was shocked to find Salman Khna’s legal team sending me a notice demanding to pay the remaining Rs 15 crore!”

Galani informed, “The agreement that I made with Salman Khan was I would pay Rs 15 crore if the film did overflow profit but in reality the movie was a super duper flop and hence the question of overflow profit didn’t arise. Yet Salman Khan’s financial experts harassed me and demanded money. When I refused Salman Khan lodged compliant at CINTAA (the Cine & TV Artistes Association), who issued me a non-cooperation, only to please Salman Khan. Hence compelled I moved the court. ”

The honorable court in its decision found Salman's claims to be baseless and the court gave judgment in Galani's favour.

Now Galani has sued Salman for defamation. "I cannot tell you what I've gone through during the last three years. My mental agony and the money on lawyers have left me drained. I've filed a Rs 250 crore defamation case against Salman for mental agony, harassment, loss of face. Who will give me back the 3 years that I've lost?"

Aamir Khan’s PEEPLI LIVE co-director arrested on rape charges

Yet again a film celebrity has brought disgrace to Bollywood by involving in the heinous act of rape.

The filmmaker charged of rape is Bollywood director Mahmood Farooqui, who is best known for co-directing Aamir Khan’s home production PEEPLI LIVE that dwelt on the gave issue of farmers' suicides.

According to New Delhi police the victim, a US citizen aged 30, is a PhD student from Colombia University and had came to India for field work. In her complaint she alleged, “Farooqui offered to help me to get material for my research work on Baba Gorakhnath in India. However one night on the pretext of taking me to a wedding he called me at his residence and under the influence of alcohol raped me.”

The New Delhi Police have lodged a FIR charging Farooqui with rape (section 376 IPC) and has sent him to 14-day judicial custody after Farooqui admitted to the crime when confronted with the emails.

What is distressing is that Bollywood that makes hard hitting movies against rape victims like the recent hit MARDANI themselves involve in such crime. Mahmood Farooqui is not the first culprit. Bollywood is packed with numerous such celebrities, who have been involved in such atrocious cases.

Remember distinguished actor Aditya Pancholi and Shiney Ahuja both were framed in the shameful cases of raping their maid servants.

Aditya Pancholi had raped the 15 year old domestic maid of his then girlfriend actress Pooja Bedi, while Shiney Ahuja was sentenced to seven years rigorous imprisonment for molesting his house maid.

Eminent villain of the 80’s Shakti Kapoor, father of present day sensational actress Shradha Kapoor, is perhaps the most talked about case. He made headlines when a cunning journalist in a sting operation had caught Shakti Kapoor asking sexual favours from an aspiring actress.

Famous national award winning director Madhur Bhandarkar was charged by a struggling actress Preeti for not only raping her several times but also threatening to kill her.

Besides this there are many more cases that lay beneath the carpet never exposed. Such cases are a blot of the prestige of Bollywood but it seems Bollywood doesn’t learn a lesson!

Prabhas Raju: “I would love to work with PK director Raju Hirani in Bollywood!”

Prabhas Raju, the dashing and debonair hunk of Tollywood is all set to make the Bollywood screen ablaze with his fiery performance in his upcoming SS Rajamouli's multi-lingual magnum opus BAAHUBALI.

Though the movie is originally being made in Telugu and Tamil languages simultaneously but the movie is going to be dubbed in Hindi and released in North India though eminent film maker Karan Johar’s Dharma Production. As a result the movie has generated a lot of buzz both amidst Bollywood filmmakers and among the Hindi cine buffs.

Standing tall at 6.2 inch Prabhas Raju is unarguably more handsome then the existing Khan Trio viz. Salman, Aamir and Shah Rukh ( all below 5.8 inch). If he has a competitor in Bollywood than he is only Hrithik Roshan but Hrithik has crossed 40 years while Prabhas Raju is just 35 years. Hence he is the right actor to take the crown of Superstar in Bollywood!

But the multi dollar question is will the busiest and highly paid actor down South take a Bollywood route?

“Who wouldn't do a Bollywood film. It is India's biggest film industry. If I get a good offer, I will definitely do it,” said Prabhas when asked about Bollywood offer.

He added, “In fact entire BAAHUBALI team is obliged to Karan Johar as he is the biggest name in the country as a producer and director with his brand Dharma Productions. I think if Karan Johar had not associated with BAAHUBALI than despite a good film we could not have reached everywhere in the country.”

On being quizzed with who he would prefer to act in Bollywood, a humble Prabhas Raju said, “Actually the truth is getting a break in Bollywood itself is a hard nut to crack. Nevertheless I would love to work with PK director Raju Hirani.”

“He is an intelligent filmmaker and all his films are wholesome entertainers. I have loved all his films. I can watch MUNNA BHAI MBBS 100 times; I can watch LAGE RAHO MUNNA BHAI 00 times; I can watch 3 IDIOTS 100 times. I even loved PK. But these three are my favorite,” he quipped.

Anita Guha: “Women used to put their new born in my arms to seek blessings!”

‘Wo Bhooli Dastaan Lo Phir Yaad Aa gayi….

This soul stirring song from the movie SANJOG (1961) staring legendary actress Anita Guha, (popularly recognized as Santoshi Maa for her role in JAI SANTOSHI MAA) suits aptly to recall the actress but today nobody remembers her.

June 20 marks the death anniversary of Anita Guha, Raaga.Com pays her homage and enlightens the younger generation about this unsung starlet.

Anita Guha, ruled Bollywood in the 50’s and 60’s in hit movies like GOONJ UTHI SHAHNAI,DEKH KABIRA ROYA, SHARADA and the most memorable of them all JAI SANTOSHI MAA which has immortalized her in the annals of Indian cinema.

Winner of ‘Miss Kolkata’ crown in the early 1950’s Anita Guha came into filmdom after excelling as the number one contestant in the talent hunt competition ‘Kardar-Kolynos Talent Contest’ held in Mumbai in 1952. Readers would be surprised to know that ‘Kardar-Kolynos Talent Contest’ was a joint effort by Bollywood and Hollywood to search budding talent for film industry. It was organized by Bollywood filmmaker A.R.Kardar’s ‘Kardar Studio’ and Hollywood’s ‘Lee Kamarin’.

Though Anita Guha did many successful films both commercial and B-grade action thrillers but it she won stardom in mythological movies beginning with SAMPOORNA RAMAYANA, which made her a household name as Devi Sita.

Later with ‘JAI SANTOSHI MAA’ she literally began to be looked upon as goddess. In an interview Anita Guha said, “The movie had such a tremendous impact upon the viewers that it became difficult for me to step out because wherever I went people thronged in large number to touch my feet.” She added, “I began to be recognized as Santoshi Maa and what was most embarrassing is that women used to bring their new born babies and put them in my arms to seek blessings!”

Interestingly readers would be amazed to know that though Anita Guha immortalized the character of SantoshI Maa on the silver but in real life she was the devotee of Devi Kali Maa!!!

Untold story of Rajesh Khanna's bungalow that will soon become history!

India’s first superstar Rajesh Khanna’s renowned bungalow Ashirwad will soon become part of history as the new owner Shashi Kiran Shetty, Executive Chairperson of Allcargo Logistics, part of Avvashya Group, has decided to demolish the 6,500-square-foot property into a multi-storey building.

It may be noted Shetty had bought the property at a whopping price of Rs 90 Crore!

As the bungalow will soon go into dust and in its place a new multi-storey building will come up, let me enlighten the readers about the strange story of the bungalow.

Few are aware that in the early 60’s when Bandra’s Carter road area facing the bewitching Arabian Sea was developing, music maestro Naushad had build his bungalow Aashiyana and at a stone’s throw there stood another bungalow which was empty. Nobody dared to purchase it due to superstitious tales of the bungalow being hunted.

However upcoming actor Rajendra Kumar, who was an acumen businessman rubbished all the tales and bought the bungalow at a cheap rate of mere Rs 60,000/-. He named the bungalow ‘Dimple’ on his daughter’s name.

Surprisingly what was regarded as hunted bungalow turned a gold mine for Rajendra Kumar and his luck skyrocketed and he became a superstar and won the title of Jubilee Kumar (as all his films created jubilee at box office). Meanwhile he even purchased a bungalow at Pali Hill in Bandra and shifted into it.

When Rajesh Khanna, another struggling actor came to know that Rajendra Kumar had shifted into his Pali Hill bungalow he contacted him and urged to sell his carter road bungalow to him. In fact Khanna hoped the ‘Lucky’ bungalow may prove a blessing for him too. After lot of pondering Rajendra Kumar gave in.

Rajesh Khanna renamed the bungalow as Ashirwad and as expected the bungalow brought bagful of smile for Khanna and in a single year he delivered 15 hits and won the elusive title of India’s First Original Superstar!

It was at this bungalow Rajesh Khanna later saw his downfall too and breathe his last.

Now the bungalow is being demolished…one wonders will it bring luck to the new owner Shashi Kiran Shetty as it did for Rajendra Kumar and Rajesh Khanna or will it bring his dome only future will tell!

Indian Cinema’s Youngest Choreographer and King of Dance - Gopi Krishna

Choreographer-turned-director Remo D’Souza is back with ABCD 2 staring like Varun Dhawan and Shraddha Kapoor in lead roles.

While it is commendable that Remo D’Souza has given a new boost to dancing thanks to his movie ANY BODY CAN DANCE (ABCD), an Indian version of STEP UP, it is tragic the new generation may not been aware about the ‘King of Dancer’ and India’s First dancer, actor and choreographer, Gopi Krishna.

Raaga.Com enlightens the readers about Gopi Krishna, on the eve of Remo D’Souza’s latest film ABCD 2

When we think of ‘Dancing Heroes’- the names that instantly pop up are Shammi Kapoor, Jeetendra, Mithun Chakraborty, Govinda, Jaaved Jaafrey and Prabhudheva but rarely does any one recall the dancing maverick Gopi Krishna, who trained most of Indian Cinema’s superstars from Dilip Kumar to leading actress like Madhubala, Meena Kumari, Nargis to Dimple Kapadia, Reena Roy, Anita Raj, Padma Khanna, Manisha Koirala, Raveena Tandon, Twinkle Khanna, Shilpa Shirodkar etc.

Readers would be surprised to know that at the young age of just 15 years he was awarded the titles of Natraj at All-Bengal Music Conference and at the age of 17 years he stunned the dancing world with his awesome dancing skills in V. Shantaram’s film JHANAK JHANAK PAYAL BAJE, thus giving classical dancing a new status and new dimension in dancing arena globally.

JHANAK JHANAK PAYAL BAJE, was a landmark film in the history of India's dancing and cinema, for it showed how classical dancing when properly used by film makers, would yield rich dividends. The film brought him fame all over the country and abroad.

Later Hollywood film maker Merchant Ivory hired him for his Hollywood film PERFECT MURDER

Impressed by his mastery in Indian classical dance he became Indian Cinema’s youngest Choreographer at 17 years. The biggest distinction came in his life when K.Asif approached him for choreography in his magnum opus MUGHAL E AZAM. Other distinguished films in which he choreographed include several great films such as UMRAO JAAN, AMRAPAALI, etc.

He set a world record for the longest continuous Kathak dance at 9 hours and 20.

The government of India conferred him with Padma Shri award.

On 17th February 1994, Gopiji passed away leaving behind a huge legacy and a painful void in our hearts. Gopiji continues to inspire millions of dance lover’s world over, even decades after his death.

Khap Panchayat’s bizarre diktat to ‘Behead’ film director Vinod Kapri!

In a stunning case of Khap Panchayat bossism the Khap Panchayat of Uttar Pradesh has issued a bizarre diktat of beheading film maker Vinod Kapri for making a political satire MISS TANAKPUR HAAZIR HO, that exposes the atrocities and fanatical diktats of Khap Panchayat.

According to reports a Uttar Pradesh village Khap panchayats has announced death statement for the film director Vinod Kapri and as an incentive to attract the killers the Panchayat has declared a reward of 51 buffaloes to anybody who behead the director!

Reports claim a panchayat of Ahalwat Khap in village Bhainsi of district Muzaffarnagar, Uttar Pradesh; has issued the diktat alleging the film MISS TANAKPUR HAAZIR HO is an insult to the dignity of Khap panchayats hence to teach the film director a lesson the diktat has been announced.

Raju Ahalawat, President of Bhartiya Kisan Union's Muzaffarnagar district, was quoted as saying, “Khap members were angry over maligning the image of panchayats and villages, therefore gave suggestions including reward of 51 buffaloes on director's head.” He added, “The harsh diktat is issued so that no one could dare to project a negative image of Khap panchayat and village culture in future.”

Meanwhile film director Vinod Kapri has sought police protection. He said, "I'm seeking police protection because I'm here in Mumbai, and my family is in Noida (Uttar Pradesh). He added, “Though it is true that I am under pressure due to the death sentence but somewhere within my heart I have a sense of satisfaction that what I wanted to show through my film has already been proved by such crazy statements.”

The film depicts the sorrow tale of a man accused in a fake case of raping a buffalo named 'Miss Tanakpur' and how the village strongmen and the Khap Panchayat pass verdict that he has to marry the buffalo!

MISS TANAKPUR HAAZIR HO, which stars Annu Kapoor, Ravi Kishan, Om Puri, Rahul Bagga and Hrishita Bhatt, is set to release on June 26.

Moustache and Bollywood

“Mooch toh maan ka darpan hai. Jiske pas mooch nahi, uske pas maan nahi.”

(The moustache is a reflection of pride. A man who doesn't have a moustache does not have any pride).

Remember this famous dialogue of eminent actor Utpal Dutt, who played a moustache obsessed character in Hrishikesh Mukherjee’s hit comedy film GOL MAAL.

In the upcoming films Shah Rukh Khan spots a thick moustache in RAEES and Salman Khan too spots a moustache in PREM RATAN DHAN PAYO. But in both the films the actors play a double role and Bollywood is known for differentiating twins by a moustache!

However in reality moustache in Bollywood is a big NO for the heroes, if you do not believe check out all the top stars of Bollywood from the 50’s to 2015, a majority are without moustache.

From Dilip Kumar, Dev Anand, Rajendra Kumar, Shammi Kapoor, Sunil Dutt, Dharmendra, Shashi Kapoor, Rajesh Khanna, Amitabh Bachchan, Rishi Kapoor, Mithun Chakravorty, Sunny Deol, Sanjay Dutt etc.

Even the trio Khan viz. Salman, Aamir and Shah Rukh Khan are without moustache.

The recent crop of actors, too continue the trend of being ‘minus moustache’. Ranbir Kapoor, Varun Dhanwan, Rajkumar Rao, Hrithik Roshan, Sushant Singh Rajput etc.

It seems the reason why Bollywood heroes do not spot a moustache is probably because it portrays an elderly look!

If you are a Bollywood buff than you must have noted that whenever a hero is given an elderly look in films then the first thing that the director does is giving them a moustache. Remember the recent hit BADLAPUR, in which Varun Dhawan is given a moustache and beard to make him look aged. Likewise there are many films like Shah Rukh Khan in CHAK DE; Akshay Kumar in SPECIAL 26.

There have been exceptions in Bollywood who spotted a moustache and became hit like Guru Dutt, Raj Kapoor, Shatrughan Sinha, Raaj Kumar sported a moustache. Stars like Jackie Shroff and Anil Kapoor up the trend well into the 90s. But in nutshell most heroes have preferred to be clean shaven.

Rare Moments when Bollywood Titans came together!

It is everybody’s desire to click a picture with star of millennium Amitabh Bachchan.

Hence when Badshah Khan aka Shah Rukh after his successful hit blaze of films like BAAZIGAR and DARR got the opportunity to click a picture with Amitabh Bachchan for the first time in the mid 90’s he had butterflies in his stomach.

To win over the heart of superstar Amitabh Bachchan, the budding actor also became Bachchan Sahab’s hair dresser as Shah Rukh happily held a mirror towards Big B, while Bachchan gave touches to his final look.

Sharing the rare picture on twitter SRK wrote, “My 1st ever photo shoot with the Maestro. I remember I rested my hand on his shoulder ever so lightly lest I ‘soil' him”

Another picture that made history was that of ‘Original’ Superstar Rajesh Khanna and his successor to the throne of Superstar Amitabh Bachchan coming together for a shot.

Renowned photographer Gautam Rajadhyaksha, who clicked the magical movement in 1991 for the Movie Magazine cover said, “The time fixed for the shot was 7 pm but Kaka (Rajesh Khanna fondly called) was known to be a late comer and Amiatbh Bachchan a punctual. Besides there existed a cold war between the two hence I doubted whether the shot would be possible but to my pleasant surprise the duo arrived for the shot hand in hand!”

Finally the third picture which shall remain embodied in golden memories is that of three generation of Superstars coming together for the cover photo of Filmfare magazine, which celebrated 100 years of Indian Cinema.

The trio of course is Dilip Kumar, Amitabh Bachchan and Shah Rukh Khan, truly a majestic movement! The shot was held at Dilip Kumar’s bungalow.

Bollywood extends support for International Yoga Day

Applauding the brilliant idea of giving Yoga an international reach the Mumbai film industry popularly known as Bollywood has come out in full support of the International Yoga Day being held on June 21.

The star of millennium Amitabh Bachchan, who himself is yoga follower and practices yoga regularly, supporting the International Yoga Day said, "I practice a bit of yoga myself, it's very natural, it's very good, it keeps one healthy in many ways.”

Discarding the communal color that is being given to the concept of International Yoga Day by some hard core Muslim fundamentalist group, Vivek Oberoi said, "There is no issue with a Muslim saying 'Om' or a Hindu saying 'Inshallah'. In fact, several body movements during namaaz are exactly yoga aasanas.”

He added, “If we can celebrate Valentine's Day without realising how it fits in our culture then what is wrong in celebrating International Yoga Day, which is our Indian traditional and most importantly the United Nations council has recognized it.”

Interestingly Bollywood actress Manisha Koirala, who got a new lease of life after she took to yoga and conquered the deadly cancer, has decided not to just be part of June 21 International Yoga Day but take the message of yoga in schools across Maharashtra.

She will be part of a 24-member panel that will recommend how schools will observe ‘Yoga Mahotsav of Yoga Day’ and will advocate how to sketch out the syllabus to include Yoga festival in School Education and Sports Department.

Deepika Padukone too applauded the government’s initiative but said, “ It is commendable to have International Yoga Day but it should not be restricted to mere one day affair instead it must be incorporating exercise into one's daily lifestyle.

Shilpa Shetty, who is into preaching yoga as she has released few video tutorials on Yoga, will be celebrating the celebrating the International Yoga Day in Bengaluru. The event will see a marathon organized from Cubbon Park to Kanteerava Stadium, which will be attended by the Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and his cabinet colleagues.

How ‘Naxalite tag’ helped Mithun Chakraborty meet filmmaker K.A.Abbas

I am a Disco Dancer….

Gouranga Chakraborty, popularly known as Mithun Chakraborty is even today identified with the song and for years he did many films with dance and action. Today Mithun Da as he is respectfully addressed turns 65.

Raaga.Com wishes him birthday wishes and enlightens readers how Mithun Chakraborty tried to run away from the Naxalite tag and how it brought him closer to the legendary filmmaker K.A.Abbas, the man who wrote brilliant scripts like AWARA, SHREE 420 and BOBBY for Raj Kapoor and gave break to star of millennium Amitabh Bachchan in his film SAAT HINDUSTANI.

Before joining cinema Mithun Chakraborty was associated with Charu Mazumdar, the fiery leader of the Naxalites, in Kolkatta. However a death in the family compelled Mithun to quit Naxal movement and move to Pune where he joined FTII and later came to Mumbai to become an actor.

However Mithun claims, “Despite detaching from the Naxal Movement, the label of being a Naxalite moved with me wherever I went, whether it was the FTII in Pune or when I came to Bombay in the late seventies.”

“I felt restless at times but could do anything but control my anger. Hence one day when a filmmaker approached me to do a film titled THE NAXALITES, I resisted to meet him but later when I came to know that celebrated filmmaker K.A.Abbas is making the film and he had approached me, I immediately met him,” informs Mithun.

He adds, “Working with the legendary Abbas Sahab was a pleasure because when I was being branded as a disco dance and action hero, he recognized my hidden talent and cast me opposite the great actress Smita Patil.”

Speaking about Abbas Sahab as a filmmaker Mithun says, “He was a simple man with high values of life. He was a very hard task master and tried his best to get the best of the actors working with him. Under in him I learned the nuance of histrionics that later helped to develop as a competent actor.”

‘Bindaas’ Kangana Ranaut displays her middle figure in the film KATTI BATTI!

It seems Kangana Ranaut is set to hit a hat trick at the box office with her next release KATTI BATTI the trailer of which was recently released for the media in Mumbai.

After the mega success of QUEEN and TANU WEDS MANU RETURNS, media person who saw the trailer claim that Kangana Ranaut, in all probability, will once again steal the hearts of film buffs with her daringly bold and ‘Bindaas’ character.

Media person claim the movie will surely create a hullabaloo at the box-office thanks to the outgoing and stupendous extrovert character of Kangana Ranaut and uncanny dialogues!

Readers would be astonished to know that in film Kangana Ranaut not only imitates the famous Michael Jackson’s pelvic thrusts movement but in a scene she is even portrayed displaying her middle figure, an act never ever portrayed by a female artist in the annals of Indian cinema!!

What’s more she also has an intimate bedroom scene with Imran Khan and last but not the least the film has some really wacky dialogues.

In the film there is a scene where Kangana Ranaut scolds Imran Khan for not urinating into the pot properly.

Lambasting Imran Khan, for not urinating properly in the pot, she screams, “Kitna Mushkil Hai Pot Mai Straight Susu Karna. Just hold the little Soldier and Aim. Yeh Koi Champagne Ki Bottle Hai Jisko Har Jagah Pakadkar Giraaogey Aur Ghumaogey!

(How difficult is it to urinate straight in a pot. Just hold the little solider and aim. Is it a bottle of Champagne which you will hold and move around spilling everywhere!)

Akshay Kumar to produce NAMASTEY ENGLAND, sequel to NAMASTEY LONDON

Yeh dosti hum nahin todenge ; Todenge dum magar tera saath na chhodeng

Akin to the super hit song from Amitabh Bachchan starrer SHOLAY, film actor Akshay Kumar and filmmaker Vipul Shah, share a warm friendship.

A picture of this was seen recently when Akshay Kumar, like a loyal friend showed confidence in the abilities of his friend Vipul Shah and has invited him to direct his home production NAMASTEY ENGLAND, a sequel to his previous hit NAMASTEY LONDON.

According to reports NAMASTEY ENGLAND, though termed a sequel, does not have the extension to NAMASTEY LONDON, instead it is fresh love story which is inspired from a ‘Real Life’ story.

It may be noted that after the super duper debacle of Vipula Shah’s last movie ACTION REPLAYY (2010), he has been into oblivion for over five years as no filmmaker was daring to hire him due to ACTION REPLAYY’s fate.

However, Akshay Kumar, much against the wishes of his near and dear ones, has decided to give his friend Vipul Shah a new lease of life. To be on a safer side Akshay Kumar has decided to make a sequel to NAMASTEY LONDON so that Vipul Shah is able to win his confidence back with another hit film.

It may be noted that Vipul Shah is the same filmmaker who dared to change the action image of Akshya Kumar and exploited the hidden talent of Akshay Kumar in movies like AANKHEN and WAQT: THE RACE AGAINST TIME both opposite Amitabh Bachchan

In NAMASTEY LONDON, too, Vipul Shah gave Akshay a different role of a sober lover.

In nut shell all the roles were against Akshay’s action hero image yet all proved hit and made Akshay Kumar a superstar.

At 72 Amitabh Bachchan in Love! It’s Love at First Sight!!

Readers would be surprised to know that at the ripe age of 72 Amiatbh Bachchan is LOVE!! And what’s more Amitabh Bachchan claims, “When I saw her I simple fell in love with her! It was literally… Love at First Sight!!”

Any guesses who the lucky girl is?

Well do not go horny and make wild guess because the girl in question is a cute little baby called Anna, the fortunate toddler, who at such a tender age has got the opportunity to share screen with none but the star of millennium Amitabh Bachchan.

Bachchan in his blog shared the cute pictures of Anna and candidly confessed, “Overwhelmed by my cuddled beauty ... and she is simply the mostest … !! There was love at first sight! Hahahaha!!! ”

In fact Bachchan was left so stunned by the adorable Anna that he even agreed to some really funny scenes for the advertisement like wearing a baby hair band and even sitting on the pram like a baby!

An insider at the shooting informed, “Bachchan sahab love children very much hence when he saw the cute Anna he cuddled her in his arms and played a lot. When she began crying he pacified her and played a lot with her as if she was his granddaughter Aaradhya.”

Amitabh Bachchan is truly enjoying the best time of his career. Interestingly in PIKU Amitabh Bachchan portrayed an aged man sharing a love bound with her daughter Deepiak Padukone and now he is playing grandfather to little Anna!

Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra pays ode to 1962 unsung Indian solider

Unlike other filmmakers who aim at box office collection intelligent filmmaker Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra is an exception. He is known for making films that are unconventional and away from the run of the mill stuff like RANG DE BASANTI, BHAAG MILKHA BHAAG, DELHI-6 etc.

Hence when there are hoards of biopics being made on personalities that have glamour and spectacle attached to them like AZHAR, MAIN AUR CHARLES, biopics on actor Kishore Kumar and Sanjay Dutt, Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra has decided to make a biopic on the unsung solider who played a pivotal role in Indo-China war and became a martyr fighting for the motherland.

Briefing media about the movie Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra informed that movie is made on the life of Rifleman Jaswant Singh Rawat, who laid down his life in the 1962 Indo-China war and was later posthumously awarded the highest Indian Army honor of Maha Vir Chalra for his incredible valor and inspirational guts to defend Mother India.

The film is written by eminent writer Kamlesh Pandey, who has written successful films like Anil Kapoor’s TEZAAB, Subhash Ghai’s SAUDAGAR and Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra RANG DE BASANTI.

Speaking about the film Kamlesh Pandey, said, “The story of Rifleman Jaswant Singh Rawat is very inspirational because not many know that when China attacked India in 1962 India was not completely equipped for the war and also our soldiers were not trained hence it was an arduous task.”

“Rawat’s story is stirring particularly for the youngster because he was just 22 years yet he fought valiantly against many odds ranging from the thick weather to ill equipped military warfare and saved the lives of many soldiers by attacking the enemy and lying down his life in the process, “he added.

Jaswant Singh Rawat’s tale of valor and sacrifice continues to serve as an inspiration to many army personnel. At the spot where he fought, a small temple is also built in his memory.

But alas the nation does not know about him hence it is commendable that Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra is making a film on him so that the world knows about his great sacrifice.

In fact biopics of such inspirational personalities are the need of the hour looking at our youngsters going erratic due to lack of reading and moving away from virtues and ethics.
