Karishma Kapoor - From Glamour Doll to actress par excellence!

When the beautiful and seductive Karishma Kapoor, granddaughter of Raj Kapoor, and daughter of actor Randhir Kapoor and actress Babita made her entry into Bollywood, cine buffs were left dazed by her dazzling beauty and in awe proclaimed ... Sexy Sexy Mujhe Log Bole….

Karishma Kapoor is credited as the first of the Kapoor clan lady who broke the old tradition of Kapoor clan that restricted female members of the family to act in films.

At the young age of 15 years she entered Bollywood and within three years at the age of 18 years she was the most sought after actress in Bollywood.

In the early 90’s she gave a string of back-to-back hits like JIGAR (1992), ANARI (1993), RAJA BABU (1994), COOLIE NO. 1 (1995), SAAJAN CHALE SASURAL (1996), JEET (1996) etc.

Though in the above film she was criticized to be just a glamour doll but in her future films she tight lipped her critics with some of her breathtaking superlative performances. In movies like RAJA HINDUSTANI opposite Aamir Khan and DIL TOH PAAGAL HAI opposite Shah Rukh Khan she proved that she was more than a glamour doll.

In fact Yash Chopra had initially approached Raveena Tandon, to play the bubbly character of Nisha in DIL TOH PAAGAL HAI but she turned it down as it was a side role and the main heroine of the film was Madhuri Dixit.

Later Yash Chopra approached many top notch actresses like Juhi Chawla, Kajol, Manisha Koirala and Shilpa Shetty but none dared to stand opposite the mighty Madhuri Dixit. Finally Karishma Kapoor took the challenge and emerged winner as went on to win the coveted National Film Award for Best Supporting Actress.

Later with films like BIWI NO.1, FIZA, ZUBEIDAA, SHAKTI: THE POWER, she was acknowledged as actress par excellence.

June 25 marks her birthday Raaga.Com wishes her many happy returns of the day.

Is Salman Khan’s Bhar do jholi meri….song from BAJRANGI BHAIJAAN a rip-off of Pakistan’s famous Sabri Brothers’s qawwali?

It seems the super duper hit spiritual qawwali Bhar Do Joli Meri Ya Muhammad….sung by the legendary Sabri Brothers of Pakistan is perhaps being repackaged into a contemporary qawwali in Salman Khan’s latest upcoming movie BAJRANGI BHAIJAAN.

Disclosing about the song Salman Khan tweeted, “Bhar do jholi meri…. is one of my favorite song from BAJRANGI BHAIJAAN and will soon be released at press conference on 25 June at Mumbai.”

Sung by eminent Pakistani music composer-singer Adnan Sami, who is best remembered for rendering hit songs like Kabhi to nazar milao…, Tera chehra …. and Lift kara de…, the song is composed by Pritam Chakraborty.

Though speculations are rife that Bhar do jholi meri…. is inspired from the Sabri Brothers legendary hit qawwali yet the film director Kabir Khan neither Salman Khan have disclosed much about the song.

Interestingly few may know that earlier the original qawwali Bhar Do Johli Meri Ya Muhammad… has been used in the 1975 little known film BIN BADAL BARSAAT.

In fact several hit qawwalis of Sabri brothers have featured in Bollywood films like Tajdar-e-Haram Ho Nigaah-e-Karam….SAHAARAY (1982) and Aftab-E-Risalat Madine Mein… SULTAN-E-HIND (1977).

Though details available about the song are not much revealed but according to sources the song is shot at a Dargah and features Adnan Sami singing the qawwali on screen, in the attire of a qawwal (spiritual singer)

Adnan Sami is making a tie-up with Salman Khan after a long time. Earlier the duo has worked together and created magic in films such as SALAAM-E-ISHQ, JAAN-E-MANN and LUCKY - NO TIME FOR LOVE.
