When the beautiful and seductive Karishma Kapoor, granddaughter of Raj Kapoor, and daughter of actor Randhir Kapoor and actress Babita made her entry into Bollywood, cine buffs were left dazed by her dazzling beauty and in awe proclaimed ... Sexy Sexy Mujhe Log Bole….
Karishma Kapoor is credited as the first of the Kapoor clan lady who broke the old tradition of Kapoor clan that restricted female members of the family to act in films.
At the young age of 15 years she entered Bollywood and within three years at the age of 18 years she was the most sought after actress in Bollywood.
In the early 90’s she gave a string of back-to-back hits like JIGAR (1992), ANARI (1993), RAJA BABU (1994), COOLIE NO. 1 (1995), SAAJAN CHALE SASURAL (1996), JEET (1996) etc.
Though in the above film she was criticized to be just a glamour doll but in her future films she tight lipped her critics with some of her breathtaking superlative performances. In movies like RAJA HINDUSTANI opposite Aamir Khan and DIL TOH PAAGAL HAI opposite Shah Rukh Khan she proved that she was more than a glamour doll.
In fact Yash Chopra had initially approached Raveena Tandon, to play the bubbly character of Nisha in DIL TOH PAAGAL HAI but she turned it down as it was a side role and the main heroine of the film was Madhuri Dixit.
Later Yash Chopra approached many top notch actresses like Juhi Chawla, Kajol, Manisha Koirala and Shilpa Shetty but none dared to stand opposite the mighty Madhuri Dixit. Finally Karishma Kapoor took the challenge and emerged winner as went on to win the coveted National Film Award for Best Supporting Actress.
Later with films like BIWI NO.1, FIZA, ZUBEIDAA, SHAKTI: THE POWER, she was acknowledged as actress par excellence.
