Yet again a film celebrity has brought disgrace to Bollywood by involving in the heinous act of rape.
The filmmaker charged of rape is Bollywood director Mahmood Farooqui, who is best known for co-directing Aamir Khan’s home production PEEPLI LIVE that dwelt on the gave issue of farmers' suicides.
According to New Delhi police the victim, a US citizen aged 30, is a PhD student from Colombia University and had came to India for field work. In her complaint she alleged, “Farooqui offered to help me to get material for my research work on Baba Gorakhnath in India. However one night on the pretext of taking me to a wedding he called me at his residence and under the influence of alcohol raped me.”
The New Delhi Police have lodged a FIR charging Farooqui with rape (section 376 IPC) and has sent him to 14-day judicial custody after Farooqui admitted to the crime when confronted with the emails.
What is distressing is that Bollywood that makes hard hitting movies against rape victims like the recent hit MARDANI themselves involve in such crime. Mahmood Farooqui is not the first culprit. Bollywood is packed with numerous such celebrities, who have been involved in such atrocious cases.
Remember distinguished actor Aditya Pancholi and Shiney Ahuja both were framed in the shameful cases of raping their maid servants.
Aditya Pancholi had raped the 15 year old domestic maid of his then girlfriend actress Pooja Bedi, while Shiney Ahuja was sentenced to seven years rigorous imprisonment for molesting his house maid.
Eminent villain of the 80’s Shakti Kapoor, father of present day sensational actress Shradha Kapoor, is perhaps the most talked about case. He made headlines when a cunning journalist in a sting operation had caught Shakti Kapoor asking sexual favours from an aspiring actress.
Famous national award winning director Madhur Bhandarkar was charged by a struggling actress Preeti for not only raping her several times but also threatening to kill her.
Besides this there are many more cases that lay beneath the carpet never exposed. Such cases are a blot of the prestige of Bollywood but it seems Bollywood doesn’t learn a lesson!
