Wanna Know, In 1996 Rajinikant had announced to join Politics?

Rajinikanth is unarguably the most deserving candidate for politics and looking at his massive mass appeal political parties have, over the years, tried to capitalise but Thalaiva Rajnikant has always sidelined the call.

On Sunday at the launch of the audio and trailer of his tri-lingual action-thriller 'LINGAA' Rajnikant once again opening his heart on the subject said, "I know everybody wants me to join politics but politics is dangerous and deep. I am not afraid of politics, but hesitant.” However he quickly added, "I have been moving in the direction shown by God. If he desires that I should come to politics, I will serve the people.”

It may be noted that since 1996 Rajinikant is being cajoled to join politics and it may come as a surprise to many readers that according to N.V. Subash, grandson of former Prime Minister P.V. Narasimha Rao, Rajinikanth had met his grandfather twice in the run-up to the 1996 elections.

In an interview N.V. Subash had said, “During the 1996 election Rajinikant had expressed his willingness to campaign the Congress through television and had met my grandfather twice.”

He added, “When Rajinikant agreed to become the face of Congress, my grandfather agreed but unfortunately when the Congress was rejoicing and making all preparation to make superstar Rajinikant as the campaign’s poster boy, Rajinikant had an urgent shooting in America. Hence without taking consent of my grandfather, Rajinikant dashed off to United States. This irked my grandfather and he dropped Rajinikant’s name doubting the superstar’s seriousness towards politics!”
