Shekhar Kapur in dilemma over making sequel to MR.INDIA or MASOOM

Eminent film maker Shekhar Kapur, who directed Oscar Award Winning Hollywood super hit film ELIZABETH, has been in news more for his most ambitious film PAANI that exposes the global issue of water crises in India. However called it destiny the film has been in pipeline since over a decade.

When will PAANI take off is still a mystery but the latest news is that Shekhar is planning a sequel to his 1983 cult classic MASOOM staring Naseerudin Shah, Shabana Azmi and the ‘wonder boy’ Jugal Hansraj.

According to rumor mills Shekhar Kapur who was in city last year has been compelled to write a sequel to MASOOM after being overwhelmed by student’s demand when he attended a city college.

Shekhar Kapur in a tweet wrote - "'Mr India 2' or 'Masoom 2'? Just come out from an amazing interaction with students. Clamouring for a sequel. Equal votes. How would u vote? (sic)."

Truly it is a catch 22 situation for Shekhar Kapur because both MR INDIA and MASOOM are classics in the annals of Indian cinema.

Incidentally both the movies have a contemporary subject. For instance MR.INDIA exposed corruption and inflation.

Interestingly more than two decades later same situation exists in India. Hence MR.INDIA 2 will surely be a success, if a sequel is made depicting a power packed solution to these problems as eminent South filmmaker Shaker depicted in his Tamil film ANNIYAN ( Dubbed as Aparichit in Hind).
