With the hullabaloo over Superstar Rajinikanth’s upcoming film KABALI yet to sink, the latest news is that Rajinikanth is set to play Tipu Sultan, also known as Tiger of Mysore, one of the bravest South Indian rulers, who had the daring to challenge the British Government and brought them into his knees.
If reports are to be believed than the filmmaker behind this magnum opus is none other but the distinguished MLA from Bidar South and the Managing Director of Nandi Infrastructure Corridor Enterprises, Mr. Ashok Kheny.
Mr. Ashok Kheny, who has to his credits the Kannada film PRASAD that had the distinction of being screened at the Berlin International Film Festival, is busy these day promoting his latest Kannada film NEENE BARI NEENE.
Speaking about his most ambitious film TIPU SULTAN, Mr. Kheny said, “Yes it is true I am planning to cast Superstar Rajinikanth in my upcoming biopic TIPU SULTAN.”
He added, “I had earlier contacted Rajni sir but regrettably he was not well hence we could not discuss the project in details. Nevertheless I will keep pursuing him and shall meet him soon to discuss about this historical project that will bring name and fame for Karnataka.”
Unlike Bollywood actor Sanjay Khan TV serial THE SWORD OF TIPU SULTAN, Ashok Kheny aspires to make a big budget movie that is at par with International standards. He says, “The film will be made on a grand level, akin to the international production GANDHI.”
Interestingly readers may be aware in 2014 there were reports about other South Superstar Kamal Haasan playing the valiant ruler Tipu Sultan in a film titled, 'TIPPUVUM UNNIAARCHAYUM'.
The film was supposed to be directed by Kamal Haasan and produced by Gokulam Gopalan, who made the super hit PAZHASSI RAJA but there is no news about the film.
Likewise even Rajinikanth’s daughter Soundarya had experimented with TIPU SULTAN with her animated version Sultan the Warrior but it was shelved.
One hope Mr. Ashok Kheny succeeds in his mission because indeed the biggest tribute that South India can give to the legendary freedom fighter and Mysore ruler Tipu Sultan is by making a movie on his life and if Superstar Rajinikant can play the role than it will be icing on the cake!
