It seems after ‘Swachh Bharat’, the Narendra Modi government is on a new mission called ‘Swachh Internet’, where in it plans to cleanse the internet from the filth of ‘Porn’ content available in India.
A picture of this drive was witnessed on Sunday morning when most of internet service providers (ISPs) – including Vodafone, MTNL, ACT, Hathway and BSNL – porn sites went BLANK!
What was most shocking for porn site addicts was that even popular porn sites like Pornhub and Redtube displayed blank pages. A site displayed the message – ‘Blocked’ as per the directions received from Department of Telecommunications, ‘Government of India’.
Irritated at government’s unwarranted action, the social media was packed with anger, resentment and some even mocked the government’s idiotic dictatorship. A sarcastic tweet read - Someone must remind the current government that they were elected to run the nation not become Moral Science Teacher!
Another sarcastic tweet read - Earlier: BJP = Bhartiya Janta Party and Now BJP = Ban JoBhiManKiya Party!!!
Possibly mocking at the earlier beef ban and now the porn site ban!
Peeved at the ban, eminent filmmaker Ram Gopal Verma, known for making ridiculous remarks, for the first time rightly tweeted, “Government must finds ways to steer the content not going in wrong directions rather than to block it.” To make his point clear he added, “To ban porn saying it corrupts the young minds is like stopping traffic because it would cause accident.”
True indeed! Just because porn site are targeted for increase in crimes like rape and molestation does not mean you shut them off. Instead the government must find solutions that prevent children from easily accessing these sites.
It may be remembered that even the Apex Court believes banning adults from watching porn is VIOLATION of Article 21 [right to personal liberty]. Hence the honorable Supreme Court had turned down the PIL filed by an advocate Kamlesh Vashwani to block porn websites in India.
Chief Justice of India HL Dattu in his judgment had guaranteed Indians a right to personal liberty which allows them to watch pornography in private.
In fact porn is legal in many parts of the world. The Telecom & IT Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad too, in a press meet confessed, “I know that porn is legal in other countries but it needs to be viewed in the "context of Indian culture and moral obligation towards society".
I fail to understand what Indian culture is the honorable Minister talking about? India is a land that gave the world Kamasutra and the Khajaro temple proudly displays the same! The erotic carvings displaying various kinds of sex positions and the art of love making on its walls are regarded as India’s heritage. Hence to advocate about Indian culture is hollow and meaningless.
The truth is that the Narendra Modi government is obligated to its various religious wings likes Vishwa Hindu Parishad, Sanga Parivar, Bajran Dal, Baba Ramdev, etc. who are against porn, has been compelled to take this step.
