In the mid 70’s when eminent villains like Danny, Ajit, Premnath, Prem Chopra, Jeevan, etc were ruling the roost suddenly with SHOLAY, Amjad Khan became a star villain overnight throwing many famous villains out of job.

With Amitabh Bachchan donning the Superstar cap, Amjad Khan became the Superstar villain and the duo gave hit after hit films like KAALIYA, GANGA KI SAUGANDH, LAAWARIS, MUQADDAR KA SIKANDAR, MR. NATWARLAL, NASSEB…the list is quite long.

However the man with fierce looks, menacing persona and terrifying baritone was a golden man at heart. Recently his son, Shadaab Khan who has turned writer, after his failure as an actor, reveled an interesting anecdote how his father was a kind man at heart.

On the eve of the release of his book ‘Murder in Bollywood’ Shadaab Khan recalled, “I used to generally accompany papa during his shooting. Once on a Saturday morning, when we reached the studio a poor man halted our car at the studio gate and pleaded papa to help him with money for his daughter’s wedding. Papa assured him and asked to meet him on Sunday morning at our residence.”

He continued, “As promised the man came to our residence on Sunday morning but since on Sunday film producers thronged our house to discuss film projects with papa hence the man could not meet him. He waited till late night and went back. Later when papa remembered about him he handed me double the amount promised to the man and asked me to hunt the man and pay him.”

“When I reasoned papa for doubling the amount, he said, ‘I made the man wait double the time he was meant to. So, it’s only fair that I give him twice the amount,” reminisced Shadaab Khan.
