Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra pays ode to 1962 unsung Indian solider

Unlike other filmmakers who aim at box office collection intelligent filmmaker Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra is an exception. He is known for making films that are unconventional and away from the run of the mill stuff like RANG DE BASANTI, BHAAG MILKHA BHAAG, DELHI-6 etc.

Hence when there are hoards of biopics being made on personalities that have glamour and spectacle attached to them like AZHAR, MAIN AUR CHARLES, biopics on actor Kishore Kumar and Sanjay Dutt, Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra has decided to make a biopic on the unsung solider who played a pivotal role in Indo-China war and became a martyr fighting for the motherland.

Briefing media about the movie Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra informed that movie is made on the life of Rifleman Jaswant Singh Rawat, who laid down his life in the 1962 Indo-China war and was later posthumously awarded the highest Indian Army honor of Maha Vir Chalra for his incredible valor and inspirational guts to defend Mother India.

The film is written by eminent writer Kamlesh Pandey, who has written successful films like Anil Kapoor’s TEZAAB, Subhash Ghai’s SAUDAGAR and Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra RANG DE BASANTI.

Speaking about the film Kamlesh Pandey, said, “The story of Rifleman Jaswant Singh Rawat is very inspirational because not many know that when China attacked India in 1962 India was not completely equipped for the war and also our soldiers were not trained hence it was an arduous task.”

“Rawat’s story is stirring particularly for the youngster because he was just 22 years yet he fought valiantly against many odds ranging from the thick weather to ill equipped military warfare and saved the lives of many soldiers by attacking the enemy and lying down his life in the process, “he added.

Jaswant Singh Rawat’s tale of valor and sacrifice continues to serve as an inspiration to many army personnel. At the spot where he fought, a small temple is also built in his memory.

But alas the nation does not know about him hence it is commendable that Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra is making a film on him so that the world knows about his great sacrifice.

In fact biopics of such inspirational personalities are the need of the hour looking at our youngsters going erratic due to lack of reading and moving away from virtues and ethics.
