Bollywood’s Anil Kapoor and Kollywood’s superstar Suriya at loggerheads!

Bollywood is a strange world because here if a filmmaker plagiarizes a film from Hollywood (or even regional) it is not a crime but if somebody even tries to just copy the title of his film, a huge hue and cry is made.

The filmmaker in this context is Bollywood ace actor and film producer Anil Kapoor, who incidentally, in his illustrious career has borrowed maximum hits from South Indian film remember WOH SAAT DIN (Tamil film Andha 7 Naatkal), VIRASAT (Tamil film Thevar Magan),EESHWAR (Telugu film Swati Mutyam),JUDAAI ( Telugu film Subhalagnam) etc.

According to reports Anil Kappor is quite annoyed with South superstar Suriya as his forthcoming Tamil-Telugu bilingual movie 24 directed by Vikram Kumar and produced by Suriya’s home production 2D Entertainment has unethical copied the title of Anil Kapoor’s popular TV serial 24.

It may be note that Anil Kapoor’s TV serial 24 that had a successful run on Color TV and is soon going to make a comeback with its sequel is itself is a copy of American serial by the same name!

But since Anil Kapoor has legally purchased its legal rights from 20th Century Fox International TV which holds the original trademark of the American series, hence he is peeved at Suriya for stealing his title.

Briefing the media Anil Kapoor said, “Recently when I saw the promo of Suriya’s upcoming film 24. I was taken aback because the look and logo of the title seemed similar to the popular American TV series '24', for which I have bought the remake rights for from 20th Century Fox International TV a few years ago.”

“It is unethical, immoral and of course illegal, when I have purchased the legal rights, Suriya has no right to adopt the same title.” He added, “Nevertheless, since we are from the same film fraternity I though it wise to speak to Suriya before taking any strict legal procedure.”

When contracted Suriya confirmed that he is starting the film 24 to be directed Vikram Kumar. However regarding the title controversy a source close to Suriya said that Suriya had planned the film in 2010, when Anil Kapoor had not even purchased the rights of American TV serial 24. Hence the allegation of theft is illogical!
