Yeh Dil Aashiqana….Kishore Kumar’s fancy for Marriages! Valentine Day Special part 2

No, this is not the title of Bollywood film but it is the story of a man whose, Dil-Aashiqana, (Heart was love crazy) complied him to marry multiple times even while his son had grown to his marriageable age! Yes, you have guessed him right. He is the great singer cum actor Kishore Kumar, who holds the record of marrying maximum times in Bollywood.

Kishore Kumar’s first marriage was with Ruma Devi, famous Bengali actress and niece of eminent film maker Satyajit Ray. The two fell in love during the shooting and married much against the wishes of their families. Music legend S.D. Burma played the fatherly figure and helped in uniting the two.

With Ruma Devi he had soon celebrated playback singer Amit Kumar. However the marriage ended in divorce due to ego clashes. It is believed that Amitabh Bachchan and Jaya Bhaduri starrer ABHIMAAN was based of the life story of Kishore Kumar and his wife Ruma Devi, 

Later, when he shifted to Mumbai he began his marrying obsession. First he married the ‘Beauty Queen’ Madhubala in 60’s. later, in 70’s he tied the nuptial knot with ‘Buxom Beauty’, Yogita Bali. And lastly in the 80’s towards ending phase he once again married yet another ‘Charming Beauty’, Leena Chandawarkar before breathing his last. 

In a lighter mood, Kishore Kumar even produced a movie ‘SHABASH DADDY’ with his own son Amit Kumar - depicting his personnel craze for marriage. To add spice to the curry he also penned a satirical number on himself:

Shabash! Shabash!! Daddy, Karne Chale the shadi meri, Khud ban baithe Dulha!
