Shahid Kapoor ‘s powerhouse performance fetches him Best Actor Filmfare Award; Kangana Ranaut wins Best Actress

The Diamond Jubilee celebration of 60th Filmfare Awards was a star studded nite that was attended by Bollywood’s who’ who ranging from Amitabh Bachchan to regulars like Rekha.

Shahid Kapoor deservedly won the Best Actor (Male) award for his powerhouse performance in Vishal Bhardwaj's HAIDER out beating superlatives performances of Aamir Khan in PK and Hrithik Roshan in BANG BANG the two most outstanding actors in the category.

In the best female actor category Kangana Ranaut won the honor for her dynamic performance in QUEEN thus overpowering Priyanka Chopra in MARY KOM; Rani Mukerji in MARDAANI and Madhuri Dixit in Dedh Ishqiya, in the same category.


Interestingly Alia Bhatt who was nominated in the best female actor category was left not disappointed as the jury rewarded her brilliant performance in Imtiyaz Ali’s HIGHWAY with the Best Female Actor Critics award.

The major highlight of the award was that Fawad Khan became the First Pakistani actor to win Best Actor Debut (Male) in KHOOBSURAT!

The award nite was literally swept away Vikas Bahl's QUEEN which won six Filmfare awards including best film, best director (Vikas Bahl), best actress, best editing to Abhijit Kokate and Anurag Kashyap, best cinematography (Bobby Singh and Siddharth Diwan) and best background score for Amit Trivedi.


The other film that took maximum awards next to QUEEN was Vishal Bhardwaj's Shakespearean tale HAIDER with five wins. In addition to best actor, the film also won a black lady supporting honours for Tabu and Kay Kay Menon. Haider triumphed in the technical categories as well, with Dolly Ahluwalia winning best costume designer and Subrata Chakraborty and Amit Ray topping the best production design list.

The Filmfare lifetime achievement award was given to veteran actress Kamini Kaushal for her outstanding contribution to Indian cinema. Kamini Kaushal made her debut in Bollywood as one of the leading ladies in Chetan Anand's Neecha Nagar. Kamini Kaushal went on to star in several films opposite leading actors like Ashok Kumar, Dilip Kumar and Raj Kapoor. She was last seen in Chennai Express, playing Shah Rukh Khan's grandmother.
