Guess what is common in these classic films DEEWAAR, RAM LAKHAN, PARINDA? Well you have guessed it right they all are inspired by thespian Dilip Kumar’s legendary hit film GANGA JUMNA that depicted the tale of two brothers, one on side of law and other on its opposite. So what made these movies such classic despite plagiarizing the original plot?
The answer lies in their outstanding screenplays that did the trick. In fact according to the highest paid writers of all time Salim Javed, screenplay is the backbone of any film and if the screenplay goes erratic the film falls flat on its face regardless of a strong story.
Thus paying salute to the style of screenplay writing, eminent filmmaker, Vidhu Vinod Chopra, producer of Aamir Khan’s mega hit PK, has initiated compiling brilliant movie screenplays into ‘book form’ so as to make them easily accessible to students of cinema to learn the nuance and technique of screenplay writing. Chopra introduced this innovative idea in 2009 with his super hit film LAGE RAHO MUNNABHAI and then he released the screenplay book of 3 IDIOTS in June 2010.
Moving a step further Vidhu Vinod Chopra has now brought out the screenplay in book forms of Indian Cinema’s greatest filmmaker Guru Dutt. The movies whose screenplay have been complied into book form are Guru Dutt’s classic milestones Viz. SAHIB BIBI AUR GHULAM, CHAUDHVIN KA CHAND and KAAGAZ KE PHOOL
Speaking to media about the release of these books Vidhu Vinod Chopra in an interview said, "Through the books I pay by humble tribute to the genius filmmaker Guru Dutt for making such motivating and astounding films that still leave us flabbergasted.
“The idea behind compiling legendary movie screenplay in book form is an effort to safeguard the rich inheritance of Indian cinema and to bring fervent students of cinema and film lovers closer to the work of veteran directors,” he added.
The screenplays of the above mentioned Guru Dutt films have been penned by distinguished writers Dinesh Raheja and Jitendra Kothari.
The books are scheduled to be released on 23rd February in Mumbai. The book launch will witness a discussion panel consisting of four contemporary directors Vinod Chopra, Farhan Akhtar, Dibakar Banerjee and Anurag Kashyap sharing their experience how they adore Guru Dutt and his craft of making movies.
