After
the massive debacle of Rajinikanth’s KOCHADAIIYAAN, the superstar is yet again
in a soup with his latest flick LINGAA too failing to live up to the
expectation of the cine buffs. Though film trade pundits may have declared
LINGAA as the highest grossing movies of 2014 and placed it in the prestigious 100-crore
Club but the bitter truth is that LINGAA is a commercial disaster and distributers
are demanding compensation from Rajinikanth.
Rajinikanth
is a golden hearted man and has been known for coming to the rescue of the film
distributors by paying the losses from his kit. Remember he compensated some
distributors when BABA and KUSELAN boomed at the box office. Likewise the distributors
are expecting the same from Rajinikanth this time and few have began
pressurizing tactics too.
One
among the many is R Singaravadivelan, managing director, Marina Pictures, who
has approached the Madras high court for permission to stage a hunger strike in
Chennai as he has failed to recover his investment.
In his petition, R Singaravadivelan said he
had purchased the rights to screen the film in Trichy and Thanjavur districts
for a sum of Rs 8 crore but since the film failed to appeal the film buffs, he
could not make enough profit. He claims that like him many distributors, who
have suffered similar losses, are planning to join him in the stir as neither
Rajinikath nor the film producers are paying heed to their woes.
The
petitioner plans to hold a hunger strike on January 10 at Valluvar Kottam or at
the government guest house near Chepauk in Chennai.
Responding
to the threat by distributors, a producer on condition of anonymity said, “The distributors
have tasted blood after Rajini sir had been kind to few distributors in the
past. However I don't think Rajini Sir will bow to such emotional black mail
this time.”
