C. Ramchandra - The music director who composed Aye Mere Watan Ke Logo…..

Music legends like Naushad, Shanker Jaikishen, S.D.Burman, Madan Mohan are some of the names that have been embossed in Golden Letters in the annals of the Music fraternity of Indian Cinema.

However what is tragic is that some real genius of Music Industry who have given the Golden Era of Indian Cinema the kind of Music that still brings in a lease of fresh air, whenever we listen them on Radio or TV have been forgotten and ignored.

One such unsung Music Legend was C. Ramchandra, the versatile music director who introduced the racy rock ‘n’ roll numbers music in the 40’s and 50’s . Remember the hit songs Meri jaan, meri jaan ana Sunday ke Sunday … or Shola jo bhadake dil mera dhadke…

Besides these Western numbers what makes C. Ramchandra, a true genius was his amazing comment over the Hindustani Sangeet. Just remember the immortal melodious numbers Radha na bole na bole re (AZAAD), Mujhpe Ilzam E bewafai hai(YASMIN ) and of course his masterful skill in the movie ANARKALI.

The music of ANARKALI was such extraordinary that it made the ordinary movie ANARKALI into a super hit blockbuster. The younger generation may not know that when K.Asif started his Magnum Opus MUGHUL-E-AZAM, starring Dilip Kumar, Madhubala and Prithiviaj Kapoor, the movie got delayed, because of finance and K.Asif’s details for perfection. During this time the story of the movie was leaked out and Filmstan Pictures, a popular film production company immediately made the movie ANARKALI, in a short duration and released the movie.

The movie stars Pradeep Kumar, Bina Rai and Mubark (playing king Akbar). The movie was released in 1953 and was super hit solely on hits hit music composed by C. Ramchandra. Just recall the hit songs … Ye Zindagi usiki hai …. ; Mohabbat aisi dhadkan hai …; Aa ja ab to aaja and others.

Besides this everyone is aware about the foot tapping songs of ALBELA, which was again a small budget film with no star valve. It stared Bhagwan and Geeta Bai, both B-grade actors but the music was A-grade and the movie created box office history. Remember the hit songs Bholi Soorat Dil Ke Khote…, Shaam Dhale Khidki Tale…., Shola jo bhadake dil mera dhadke… Qismat Ki Hawa Kabhi Naram….

Besides his command over film music C. Ramchandra shall always be remembered for the Lata Mangeshkar’ extremely popular patriotic song ‘Aye Mere Watan Ke Logo….. penned by Kavi Pradeep.

It is really regretful that the entire world recognizes Lata Mangeshkar with this song but rarely anybody knows that this great song is composed by the ultimate music wizard C. Ramchandra!!!

Raaga.Com remembers the music legend C. Ramchandra on his birth anniversary with the befitting tribute …

Tum Kya Jano, Tumhari Yaad mein Hum Kitna Roye,

Rain guzari tare gin-gin chain se jab tum soye Hum Kitna Roye!!

(You aren't aware how much we grieved in your memories,

Spent the nights counting stars while you slept…and we cried!! )
