In a setback to actor Salman Khan in the 2002 hit and run case, the Dabbang actor has been tested positive of having drunk alcohol, when he allegedly rammed his four-wheeler over poor people sleeping on a pavement on Hill Road in Bandra (west), Mumbai killing one and injuring four others.
Salman Khan, dressed in jeans and a blue-green shirt was present in the Mumbai court for the hearing in which he faces charges of culpable homicide. If convicted, he could face a sentence of up to 10 years in prison. Salman Khan was accompanied by his sisters, Alvira and the newly-wed Arpita Khan.
A forensic expert told session’s court that content of alcohol in Salman's blood was higher than permissible limit. The alcohol content in Salman's blood was 62mg, which is more than double the permissible limit of 30mg.
To make matters worse for Salman Khan a key witness has identified Salman Khan and confessed before the court that he has seen the actor driving the car which mowed down several people in 2002. Thus with these two key evidences it seems Salman Khan might land up in jail for 10 years?
There have been several twists and turns in the 12-year hit and run case in the past too. In August, 2014, the Mumbai Police had told the court that the case diary has gone missing in addition to 55 of the 63 case related documents which were already missing but now the court is desperate for the verdict. During the proceedings, the court observed, "It's been 12 years. We must complete the trial by December.”
Speaking about the case, well-known lawyer Majeed Memon, says, "Now that the charges in the case have been framed, it is an important milestone and it is expected that now the trial court will not delay in conducting and concluding this trial.”
