Dharmendra, the Original He Man of Bollywood, who turns 79 today, is surprisingly as fit as he was during the 60’s. A pointer to his fitness can be just gauged from the fact that even at this ripe age he is playing romantic roles and will be soon seen romancing with sexy beauty Deepshikha in his forthcoming movie SECOND HAND HUSBAND.
Speaking about his fitness Dharmendra says that since his early days he had been health conscious and had a penchant for body building. Commenting on today’s hi-tech gym and modern machinery available to boost six packs abs he says, “I do not approve these so called six or eight packs abs kind of body. It is a momentary appeal that won’t last instead cause harm.” He adds, “It is unfortunate that the younger generation instead on developing their body by traditional means of exercise and eating healthy diet is drawn to easy means which would prove hazardous.”
Recalling his entry in films he reminisces, “My passion for cinema was such that I had watched Bollywood’s tragedy king Dilip Kumar’s movie SHAHEED multiple times and each day when I crossed near the cinema hall, showing the movie, I would stare at the poster for long time dreaming one day I would became a hero and my poster would similarly put up outside cinema halls.”
“Finally the day came when I was selected by the Filmfare Magazine Talent Hunt Contest and invited to Mumbai. I was signed by Bimal Roy for BANDANI opposite the legendary actors like Nutan and Ashok Kumar and after that I never had to look back,” concludes Dharmendra.
