The
handsome looking actor and heartthrob of Tamil cinema, Madhavan’s journey in
Bollywood has been sweet and sour. The brilliant actor turns 41 on June 1,
Raaga.Com wishes him birthday greetings and looks into his career in Bollywood.
His
Bollywood career began with REHNA HAI TERE DIL MEIN opposite Diya Mirza and
Saif Ali Khan. The movie was a remake of Madhavan’s own super hit Tamil film MINNALE
but alas the Hindi version didn’t create much hungama at the box office. Nevertheless Madhavan did make his dint
and won the prestigious Screen Award for Most Promising Newcomer – Male and was
nominated for Zee Cine Award for Best Male Debut.
However
he could not retain his magic as a hero in Bollywood as most of his films as
hero like DIL VIL PYAR VYAR, RAMJI LONDONWALEY, 13-B failed miserably at box
office. Thus Madhavan’s cherished dream of becoming a hero like Shah Rukh Khan
in Bollywood could not be fulfilled. Nevertheless with superior characters
roles in RANG DE BASANTI, GURU, 3 IDIOTS he was ultimately able to win stardom.
Madhavan
candidly confesses that it was only after 3 IDIOTS he really tasted stardom. In
an interview he said, “After 3 IDIOTS people began recognizing me as I noticed
that after the movie’s release I was not able to move freely on streets or eat pani
puri on the streets of Mumbai as I would be cheered by my fans.”
Speaking
about the movie he said, “He had a tough time reducing his weight to give a
collegian look.” Few know that to reduce his weight for 3 IDIOTS Madhavan had
gone to Ashford in the UK to work on his physique. He said, “My sister is
health freak. She stays in Ashford and there are really excellent health
clinic. Hence the movement Rajkumar Hirani, director of 3 IDIOTS asked me to
work on my looks I headed straight to my sister’s place in Ashford and
amazingly when I returned after three weeks both Rajkumar Hirani and Vidh Vinod
Chopra (producer of 3 IDIOTS) were stunned to see my new look. Both rubbed
their eyes in disbelief and later complimented me for my efforts and
dedication.”
