Mortal men, Immortal melodies!! True words, indeed, because Human bodies go into flame or dust, but ‘Music’ remains immortal. It resonates from generation to generations. Today we may not have musical stalwarts like Naushad , S.D. Burman, Shanker Jaikishen etc. among us but…. , their music is alive. All we have to do is Just wipe the dust of time! And that’s exactly what we are doing, in a series of articles , segmented, year wise, ‘Raaga.Com’ takes you down memory lane as we explore the hit songs of bye-gone era and package a ‘Top 10 countdown’ according to sale of records and public demand.
In
our first series we look at the music of movies released in the year 1970. The
year witnessed some of the most memorable songs like Ghulabi aankhen jo teri dekhin…(THE TRAIN), Jeena yahaan marna …(MERA NAAM JOKER), Khuda bhi aasmaan se jab zameen par…(DHARTI), Ye duniya ye mehfil mere kaam ki nahin (HEER RANJHA) etc.
Among
the music directors who ruled the year was obviously the dark horse pair
of Kalyanji Anandji who gave a row hits
like GEET, SAFAR, JOHNY MERA
NAAM, SACHAA JHUTHA, PURAB AUR PASCHIM etc.
The duo deservedly had their song Meree Pyaaree Bahaniya Banegee Dulhaniya..
(SACHHA JHUTHA) at the top position in
the prestigious Binaca Geet Mala, Top 10 annual
musical countdown out beating S D Burman at second position with Rangeelaa Re, Tere Rang Mein (PREMPUJARI) and Shankar Jaikishan’s hit number Vo
Pari Kahaan Se Laaun… (PEHCHAN) at third position.
The song Meree
Pyaaree Bahaniya Banegee Dulhaniya… was such a super hit, that even today
it is immortal, particularly at marriage ceremonies.
The duo gave some super hits songs like in
SAFAR - Jeevan Se Bhari…, Jo Tumko Ho
Pasand… , Zindagi Ka Safar… or in KATI PATANG Yeh Shaam Mastani…; Pyar Deewana Hota Hai…or in GEET - tere nainakyon bhar aaye...; mere mitwa mere meet re...; or in , JOHNY MERA NAAM - O Babul Pyare, Nafrat Karne Walon Ke, Pal
Bhar Ke Liye and of course who can the patriotic songs of Purab Aur Paschim
- Bharat Ka Rahnewala...; Dulhan Chali...
In fact Kalyanji Anandji took the nation by
its feet with their two cabaret songs viz. MeraNaam Hai Shabnam….(KATI PATANG) filmed on sizzling Bindu and the other Husan Ke lakhon Rang Kaunsa Dekhoge… (JOHNY
MERA NAAM) filmed on the sensuous Padma Khanna.
However despite such great music KalyanjiAnandji were not even nominated for the Filmfare Best Music director Award.
