The man who won Padmashri in 2007, the man behind
penning beautiful lyrics for most of the songs we keep humming today ,
the man who has written over 15,000 songs and has survived in the music
industry for more than half a century, the man who has written for all
genres of music including folk, blues, hip-hop as well, the man we are
talking about is none other than - Kavignar Vaali.
For the past few decades there would not be a single
music lover who would not know "Madhavi ponmayilaal",
"Ammavendrazhaikatha uyirillaye", "Naanaga naan illai" and "Janani janani", which through the intense depth of feelings conveyed via lyrics
carried the listener to a different world altogether. His imagination
of lyrics is laudable - "Singari sarakku nalla sarakku" is a classic
example which appeals to the mass. His hits with music directors like
A.R.Rahman include "Chikkupukku chikkupukku railay", "Mukkala muqabla",
"Munbe Vaa" etc. The man matched up to the requirements of the youth and
his lyrics for all the songs for the movie New was well-appreciated.

The song was rewritten by Valli for over 5 times and Ulaganayagan Kamal Haasan was still unhappy with it. Only at his sixth attempt, he became
successful in delivering what Kamal wanted wanted. It is an
understatement to not call the song a hit. Such is the kind of hardwork
which the lyricist always out across which undoubtedly took him to
greater heights.
Undoubtedly, Kavignar Valee is the only lyricist to
have won the Tamil Nadu State Film Awards for Best lyricist for over 5
years. His record stands unbroken. The lyricist was appreciated for his
meaningful, motivational lyrics for the movie Ethir Neechal which
released earlier this year. His other hits in this year include Maryaan,
Udhayam NH4 which yet again reached the hearts of many for the soulful
lyrics.
It is a loss to the Tamil music industry that the
author passed away few months back. As a matter of fact, the 'Kavignar'
remains immortal in all our hearts.
