M.S. Dhoni becomes India’s First Captain to register 100 ODI wins

‘Captain Cool’ aka Mahendra Singh Dhoni added yet another feather in his already congested cap by becoming India’s First Captain and the third in the world to achieve the remarkable milestone of winning 100 ODI wins as a captain.

Dhoni and his team reached this landmark by handsomely defeating Bangladesh by a huge margin of 109 runs at Melbourne Cricket Ground in the cricket World Cup quarterfinals on Thursday.

Dhoni has achieved the incredible record in just 178 matches. With this distinguished record Dhoni now rubs shoulders with the legendary Austrian captains Ricky Ponting and Allan Border, the only two captains to have achieved this marvelous feat. Ponting has won 165 wins out of the 230 ODIs and Border has won 107 wins from 178 ODIs. Unfortunately South Africa captain Hansie Cronje lost this place of pride as he could win just 99 ODIs for his side.

Arguably one of the best captains in the history of not just Indian cricket, but also world cricket, Dhoni now boosts to be the only captain in India to have won all three ICC tournaments - World T20 (2007), World Cup (2011) and Champions Trophy (2013). And that’s not has M.S. Dhoni has also registered the highest number of knockout wins (9) in ICC tournaments. He has gone past Ricky Ponting’s 8 wins.

Coming from a humble background the Jharkhand lad has taken Indian cricket to dizzy heights of popularity. Ever since he took captaincy from Rahul Dravid in 2007, Dhoni has attained great heights in international cricket, even taking India to the top of Test rankings.

Speaking about the achievement Dhoni as usual did not seem excited but was grounded and credited the achievement to the team. He said, “A lot of credit needs to go to the boys and the support staff. The good thing is not many players form in our side are in the top run-scorers list, but the batting has performed well."

Though Dhoni's win percentage is not comparable with that of Ricky Ponting, Border, Steve Waugh, Graeme Smith yet cricket expert’s claim Dhoni has achieved the milestone with a bowling attack that was not as competent as the quality of bowlers the above mentioned captains were fortunate to have.

In nutshell M.S. Dhoni is going great guns and one hope he continues the winning stride and wins the 2015 World Cup in style as he did fours back!
