Priya Banerjee - Yet another South Actress enters Bollywood

After Asin, Ileana D’Cruz, Shruti Haasan the new South Indian beauty to join Bollywood is Priya Banerjee, who after her stint in Tamil and Telugu films is making her foray in Bollywood opposite none other than Bollywood top actress Aishwarya Rai Bachchan in Sanjay Gupta’s much publicized film JAZBAA. 

Sanjay Gupta briefing the media about introducing Priya Banerjee in Bollywood said, “I was looking out for a new heroine with a foreign upbringing. Incidentally somebody gave me a video of Priya’s Tamil film and I was floored as she fitted the role to a perfect ‘T’.”


“Soon after watching the film I asked my casting director to trace the actress and confirm that she hasn't signed any other Hindi film, we auditioned her, and she was impressive. She is a fine actor and plays an important role in the film", informed Gupta. 

Born and brought up in Canada, Priya Banerjee has the distinction of being Miss Photogenic at the Miss World Canada in 2011. Since her childhood she aspired to be an actress. Hence she also got herself trained in Kathak and Rabindra Sangeet(classical music) in Canada and even did many stage performances in Canada. 

A graduate in International marketing and computer science, Priya Banerjee moved to Mumbai in 2012 and enrolled herself at Anupam Kher’s acting institute called ‘Actor Prepares’, regarded as India’s finest acting school for talented aspiring actors. 

In an interview Priya said, “I was fascinated with Indian films, I have grown up watching Bollywood cinema. I started with SHOLAY my all-time favourite.” 

Speaking about her debut film she said, “After completing my acting course I had returned to Canada when a friend informed me that famous Telugu actor cum director Adivi Sesh was looking for a debutant actress hence I sent my video and got selected for the film KISS and rest is history.” 

JAZBAA is the much publicized film not only because it is the comeback film of Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, but the movie brings multiple talented actors from both commercial and art cinema like Irrfan Khan, Shabana Azmi, Atul Kulkarni, Anupam Kher along with Siddhanth Kapoor and John Abraham.
